The mission of the Curriculum Review Committee of the University of Southern Maine College of Arts and Sciences is to advise the Dean of the College on all matters related to the College’s programs and their constituent courses, as reflected in the curriculum described in the USM Undergraduate Catalog.
The CRC’s role includes, but is not limited to,
* evaluation of curricular changes (new course proposals, course changes, course eliminations, program changes) for their intellectual rigor and impact on existing courses and programs;
* examination of catalog changes to ensure curricular consistency across the College; and
* consideration of other curricular matters the Dean might refer to the CRC on an ad hoc basis.
In all its activities, the CRC is dedicated to ensuring a curriculum that is well structured and based on the College’s ideals of a liberal arts education. It is also committed to providing descriptions of programs and courses that are clear and concise, thereby serving the departments, College, University, and community through clear communication of the College’s goals and values.
The CRC comprises one member from each department of the College, and annually elects co-chairs to run the meetings and maintain the paperwork necessary for clear understanding of the status of any matter before the CRC. It meets at least monthly during the academic year.
