Student Responsibilities
- Arrange an appointment to meet with
your advisor before you encounter difficulties.
- Take responsibility for understanding and meeting the
requirements for your
degree.
- Know the degree
requirements of the college and your major.
- Be familiar with the academic
regulations of the University as listed in the USM
catalogue.
- Be familiar with the academic
calendar for such information as Add/Drop and Withdrawal deadlines, registration
dates, and the final
exam schedule.
- Keep track of your own progress toward the degree and
notify your advisor, the CAS Dean's Office, and the Registrar's
Office of any discrepancy noted between our records
and yours.
- Give accurate information concerning your interests and
abilities to your advisor and others who may help you in
the advising process.
- Take the initiative to learn about and make use of the University
resources available to you.
- Attend all classes on a regular basis.
- Commit yourself to developing
and using effective study habits.
- If you have questions or concerns about your progress
in a course or in your major address them early on. Make
an appointment with the appropriate professor and/or with
your advisor.
- Select individual courses from those required in your
major, and/or minor, as well as to satisfy Core
curriculum requirements to create a tentative schedule
prior to your advance
registration advising appointment each semester.
- Use
the courses you take effectively to learn the information
and skills that will positively benefit you in life and
the world of work.
- Get involved
on campus with your major's student organization,
the Student
Senate, or in an activity that connects you
with the University community.
