Jean Mattimore has served as executive director of the Maine Community College System's Center for Career Development since 1994. The Center oversees several statewide programs for MCCS, including Maine Quality Centers, an economic development program that provides training for new and expanding businesses at no cost, and Early College for ME, a comprehensive high-school to college transition program. The Center also supports the MCCS’ planning and research efforts. She has served as interim president of York County Community College.
Prior to joining MCCS, she worked as an executive for Unum Corporation, an international disability and special risk insurance company located in Portland. She served as commissioner of finance for the state of Maine in the late 1980s. She began her career as a lecturer in English at Simmons College and the University of New Hampshire. Her education includes a masters degree in English literature, an M.B.A. degree, and a doctorate in higher education.
