General Reading

New Releases and Kelly's Picks

Zookeeper's Wife Here is my non-fiction book recommendation!! I always
have to admit that I don't read much non-fiction and when I do I usually get the audio version and listen in my car. Well - this summer I found myself at the beach and managed to finish reading the book I brought long before I wanted to leave and like all good booksellers I just took myself back to my car to see what I had stashed there for emergencies such as this. The Zookeepers Wife was on the top of the pile and I am so glad I picked it up. It's the story of the Nazi invasion of Poland and the courage of Jan and Antonia Zabinski - the keepers of the Warsaw zoo. They were Polish Christians who managed to save over 300 people. Ackerman - the author of A Natural history of the Senses - has put together a compelling story based on Antonia's diaries. I couldn't put it down!
Arsonist's Guide
I'm almost finished with this one but so don't know the end yet but I' sure having a god time getting there.
The main character burns down Emily Dickinson's house - accidently perhaps - and kills two people who are unfortunately in the house at the time. After a stint in prison he tries to rebuild a life until his past intrudes and takes us on an interesting ride around New England while other writers homes go up in flames.

Bridge of Sighs Several of us were lucky enough to read advance copies of his new book and if you're a fan you are in for real treat. Bridge of Sighs is a true masterpiece. Russo returns to upstate New York for part of the setting of this book and then takes us on a journey to Italy. The settings are rich and the relationships between characters are intriguing. I guarantee you will love it.
Interred in their bones
For the Da Vinci code set - though the writing is a bit tighter. This is a thrill ride involving lost works of Shakespeare, a 400 year old mystery and copycat murders! Makes for a great rainy day read.
Ike Korda's previous books have all been bestsellers and this one is destined to follow that trend. This is the first major single volume biography of Eisenhower. Henry Kissinger says " Dwight Eisenhower emerges in Michael Korda's splendid book as a wise leader and an effective Allied commander."
Mythology
This is the latest in the -ology series from Candlewick . The same quality as Wizardology , Pirateology and Dragonology!! All the myths from Ancient Greece with great illustrations. This is a book for all ages
Age of Turbulence The long awaited autobiography by the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board has been much in the news lately. It's actually a quite chatty bio - he is not afraid to let us see some private moments.
The War
The companion book to the new PBS series is a must for WW II history buffs. Includes so many compelling photographs and is vintage Ken Burns .
The World is Flat This is the paperback of one of bestselling books of the last several years and the cover says it's "further updated and expanded. Release 3.0"
