USM's Adam Farrington Eliminated at NCAA Wrestling Championships
GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine fifth-year senior Adam
Farrington (Poland, Maine) has been eliminated from the 2001 NCAA Division III
Wrestling Championships after dropping a pair of decisions during the first day
of competition on Friday. The championships are being host by Wartburg College
in Waverly, Iowa.
Farrington, who went into the championships seeded fifth in the 174-pound
weight class, dropped a 9-3 decision to Justin Dix of Cornell College in his
first bout of the day.
In his consolation bracket match Friday night against Brad Christie of
Montclair State, the only wrestler to beat him during the regular season,
Farrington lost another decision, 8-3, to be eliminated from the tournament.
The only USM wrestler to reach the national tournament in the four-year
history of the program, this was Farrington's second trip to the NCAA
championships. He previously had gone to the 1999 tournament. Farrington
finished the 2000-2001 season with a 33-3 overall record.

Adam Farrington Named Wrestler of the Month
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior co-captain Adam Farrington (Poland, Maine) of
the University of Southern Maine wrestling team has been named "Wrestler of the
Month" by the New England Intercollegiate Wrestling News for the month November.
Dave Kemmy, editor of the New England Intercollegiate Wrestling News and head
wrestling coach at Roger Williams University, made the announcement.
This is the first time that a USM wrestler has been named "Wrestler of the
Month" by the New England Intercollegiate Wrestling News.
The fifth-year senior was selected for the honor after he won the 174-lb.
weight class at the season-opening Roger Williams University Invitational and
the prestigious Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College. In those two
tournament, Farrington compiled a 9-0 record with six pin falls. Among his wins
was a pin fall victory over senior Mike Margelis of Delaware Valley College in
the finals at the Parker Invitational. Margelis was the eighth-ranked
competitor in the nation at 174 pounds in the preseason coaches poll.
As the Huskies head into final exams and the holiday break, Farrington has
a 13-1 overall record with eight pin falls.
"It is very gratifying for me and the team to be represented by Adam,"
commented head coach Ted Reese. "He has become such a good wrestler through all
the hard work he's put in over the years, and he's a leader in practice and
meets."
Roger Williams University freshman Jesse Aquino was selected by the New
England Intercollegiate Wrestling News as the "Rookie of the Month" for
November.
Southern Maine, 1-2 on the season, returns to action on January 10 (7:00
p.m.) with its home-opening dual meet against Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
That meet will be the first of two home meets this season for the Huskies. The
other home meet will be January 28 (3:30 p.m.) against Norwich University.
