Women's Tennis Preview

It's a very exciting time for women's tennis at USM.

In our first two years we won the Little East Singles Championship, in 1995 by senior Lesya Stasiv and in 1996 by sophomore Suzane deGolian.

The upcoming season looks promising, with three solid recruits joining the team. Coach St. Peter has high hopes the Huskies will win the Little East Team Championship in 1997.

The new USM field house, scheduled to open by Jan. 1998, will have four new indoor tennis courts. A fund-raising project to enable nine new outdoor courts is underway.

The 1997 schedule will bring such top competitors as Tufts, Bowdoin and Bates, and the team will also be playing a grass court tournament at the tennis hall of fame in Newport R.I.

Coach St. Peter is hopeful that there will be a spring schedule for Women's Tennis in 1998 and he hopes to take the team to Hilton Head S.C. for spring training.
