Kirkpatrick and Willey Named Southern Maine Women's Tennis Captains
GORHAM, Maine -- Juniors Ashley Kirkpatrick (Sanford, Maine) and Sarah
Willey (Windham, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies women's
tennis team have been named co-captains for the 2006 season. First-year head
coach Lori Towle made the announcement.
"With nearly an entirely new roster this fall, Sarah and Ashley stepped up
immediately in the preseason to provide leadership and direction for our new
players," commented Towle, a 1996 graduate of USM. "They have continued to set
the tone with dedication and intensity into our regular season schedule and this
is vital to the development and improvement of this program."

basketball head coach at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, has been named
head coach for women's tennis at the University of Southern Maine in an
announcement from Al Bean, Director of Athletics at USM.
Towle, a 1996 graduate of the University of Southern Maine, replaces Ben
Putnam who served as the head women's tennis coach during the 2005 season.
"We're fortunate to have someone with Lori's coaching experience and
familiarity with USM back in our program," noted Bean. "Lori coached tennis for
seven years at Stephens College and has been involved with the sport her entire

providing individualized fitness programs and one-on-one training to athletes.
Prior to Hoopsedge.com, Towle worked as a Physical Education Teacher/Coach at
Columbia Independent School, serving as the K-8 physical education teacher and

During her collegiate playing career, Towle was a three-sport athlete for
the Huskies participating in basketball, softball and soccer. Towle earned All-
Little East Conference and All-ECAC honors in basketball for the Huskies.
Following her graduation from USM, Towle worked as an intern in the athletic
department and served as an assistant coach for the Huskies' women's soccer and
basketball programs. Towle was an assistant coach for the Huskies' 1998
national finalist basketball team. In 2003, Towle was inducted into the USM
