GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Sabrina Mills (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy)
singled home the game-winning run in the 10th inning as the University of
Southern Maine earned a 7-6 win over the Bridgewater State College Bears in the
first game of a non-conference softball doubleheader Thursday at Towers Field in
Gorham.
Bridgewater State edged Southern Maine 3-2 in the nightcap in a five-inning
game that was called due to darkness. With the split Southern Maine moves to
16-17 overall. The opening game loss halted a nine-game winning streak for
Bridgewater State which is now 21-15.
Mills singled up the middle to score sophomore Tiffany Jordan (Bryant Pond,
Maine/Telstar Regional). Jordan reached base safely on a fielder's choice and
then stole second to put herself in scoring position.
Trailing 4-1 after five innings, Bridgewater State rallied to take the lead
5-4 in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs on three hits, a pair of walks
and a USM error. All four of the Bears' runs in the innings came after two
outs. Freshman Tracey Sanko (Windsor, Conn.) drove in the Bears' first run with
an RBI single, while junior Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, Mass.) brought the Bears
within a run of the Huskies drawing a bases loaded walk. Sophomore Meghan Noyes
(Stoughton, Mass.) capped the Bears' rally driving in two runs with a single
into center field and a 5-4 lead.
The Huskies rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning to knot the score
up at 5-5. Freshman Stacey Stuart (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee) doubled in a
run off of the left field fence, scoring freshman Sarah Cusack (Wells, Maine).
The score remained tied through regulation, forcing extra innings.
Bridgewater State struck first plating a run in the top of the ninth on a one-
out RBI double from Noyes. Noyes' second hit of the game scored junior Rachael
Sprague (Duxbury, Mass.), who was placed on second to start the inning as part
of the NCAA tie breaker rule.
However, USM countered with a double of its own in the bottom the inning,
when Stuart connected on her second double of the game to drive in Mills.
Mills, who started the inning on second base, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt
from sophomore India Lowe (Gloucester, Mass.).
USM senior pitcher Kristina Grondin (Sanford, Maine), who entered the game
in relief in the sixth inning, was able to get out of the 10th unharmed. Grondin
got two of her six strikeouts to close out the inning and strand a Bears' runner
at third. Grondin pitched four innings of solid relief for the Huskies to pick
up the win. Bridgewater State junior Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, Mass./New
Bedford) took the loss for the Bears in 4.2 innings pitched. Verronneau gave up
three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks.

Mass./Oliver Ames) each had RBI singles and freshman Kate Youngstrom (Holden,
Mass./Wachusett Regional) added a run-scoring ground out to lead the Bears to a
3-2 win.
Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, Allison and Youngstrom put their team
ahead in the top of the second inning. Allison's singled to right field to
plate the Bears' first run of the game, while Youngstrom's bases-loaded ground
out provided her team with the go-ahead run.
Noyes' RBI single in the top of the fifth proved to be the game-winner for
the Bears as the Huskies battled back for a run in the bottom of the fifth on an
RBI single from Grondin. Noyes' finished the doubleheader with three hits and
four runs batted in.
Verronneau picked up the win for the Bears in the second game scattering

Eastern Connecticut Powers Past Southern Maine in Doubleheader Sweep
GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Rachel Denny (East Haddam, Conn./Nathan Hale-Ray)
launched a pair of home runs, including a grand slam in the first game, and
drove in six runs to lead Eastern Connecticut State University to a doubleheader
sweep of the University of Southern Maine in Little East Conference softball
action Saturday afternoon at Towers Field in Gorham.
The Warriors defeated the Huskies 6-1 in the opener, then held on for an 11-
8 win in the second game. The Warriors improve to 18-8 overall and 7-1 in the
Little East. The Huskies drop to 12-14 overall and 3-5 in the LEC.
In the opening game, Denny came to the plate in the fourth inning with the
bases loaded and her team clinging to a 2-0 lead. She hit a blast over the left
field to drive in four runs and notch her ninth home run of the season. The
Warriors had loaded the bases on a USM fielding error and singles from senior
Casey Mahoney (Willimantic, Conn.) and sophomore Ashley Sullivan (Trumbull,
Conn.).
Eastern Connecticut held a 6-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh before
USM junior Sabrina Sevigny (Sanford, Maine) broke up the shutout connecting for
her fourth home run of the season.
Eastern Connecticut junior pitcher Katie Pensiero (Stamford, Conn.) pitched
five solid innings for the Warriors to earn the win and improve to 9-2.
Pensiero held USM scoreless, allowing three hits and one walk. Freshman pitcher
Caitlin Cravens (Ellsworth, Maine) closed out the game giving up two hits and
one run in two innings of work. Southern Maine senior Kristina Grondin
(Sanford, Maine) took the loss, giving up five earned runs in seven innings on
five hits and four walks.
In the second game, senior Krystle Denny (West Haven, Conn.) blasted a
three-run home run in the top of the seventh to fend off a USM rally as Eastern
Conn. held on for the 11-8 win.
Holding a slim, 8-7 lead heading into the seventh inning, Krystle Denny
connected on her sixth home run of the season with two outs to give the Warriors
some much needed insurance runs. Krystle Denny's round-tripper in the seventh
scored sophomore Katie O'Toole (Waterbury, Conn./Sacred Heart), who connected on
pinch-hit single, and Rachel Denny, who reached base on a walk.
Trailing 6-2 following a two-run home run from Rachel Denny in the second
inning, Southern Maine rallied to trail the Eastern Conn. by a run after five
innings. USM scored twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth to get
back into the game.
USM freshman Heather Gilman (Fairfield, Maine/Lawrence) had an RBI single,
while junior Sabrina Mills (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) drove in a run on
a ground out in the fourth inning.
In the fifth, the Huskies used an RBI double from Sevigny, a wild pitch and
a run-scoring ground out from freshman Stacey Stuart (Belgrade,
Maine/Messalonskee) to pull within a run of the Warriors, before Krystle Denny
put the game out of reach.
USM got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out RBI double from
Gilman, but Krystle Denny made a solid play at the plate holding onto a relay
throw from sophomore Kim Church (Farmington, Conn.) to record the final out on
a play at the plate.
Cravens, who entered the game in relief of starting pitcher junior Lisa Cody
(Webster, Mass./Bartlett) in the fourth, earned the win yielding three earned
runs on six hits in four innings. USM sophomore Larissa O'Connor (Farmington,
Maine/Mt. Blue) took the loss allowing six earned runs on 12 hits in three
innings.

Babson Takes Two from Southern Maine
BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Junior Kaitlyn Clark (Ramsey, N.J.) had six hits
and drove in four runs lead the Babson College Beavers to a non-conference
doubleheader sweep of the University of Southern Maine Huskies Sunday afternoon
in Babson Park, Mass. Babson defeated USM 6-1 in the opener, and then earned an
11-3, six-inning win in the second game.
The Beavers extended their winning streak to six games to improve to 11-7
overall. Suffering their fourth consecutive loss, the Huskies fall to 5-9
overall.
In the nightcap, Clark stroked a bases-loaded double down the left field
line to drive in the Beavers’ first three runs in a game-ending, six-run rally
in the sixth inning. Clark’s double was one of three hits from the Beavers in
the inning. The Beavers also took advantage of two walks and three Southern
Maine errors. Senior Jess Cohen (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) added an
RBI single in the inning, finishing the game with three hits and three RBI.
Trailing 3-0 after the first inning, Southern Maine rallied with a run in
the second and two runs in the fourth to knot the score. USM freshman Heather
Gilman (Fairfield, Maine/Lawrence) scored in the second on a wild pitch after
reaching base safely with one of her two hits in the game. In the fourth,
Gilman again provided the Huskies with some offense knocking a double to left-
center field to plate a run, followed by junior Sabrina Sevigny (Sanford, Maine)
lacing a single up the middle to tie the score.
Babson regained the lead however in the fifth plating two runs on a two-
out, two-run double from freshman Nicole Giuliano (North Reading, Mass./Austin
Prep).
In the top of the sixth, Babson sophomore pitcher Danielle Liska (Seymour,
Conn.) was able to work her way out of a jam. After giving up back-to-back
singles to open the inning, Liska benefited from a runners interference call and
then retired the next two batters on strikeouts.
Liska earned the win for Babson pitching 2.2 innings after relieving
freshman starter Caroline Barr (Wilmington, Mass./Austin Prep). Liska gave up
three hits, but fanned five batters while holding USM without a run. USM
sophomore Larissa O’Connor (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) took the loss giving up
eight hits and three walks in 5.1 innings pitched.
In the first game, Babson cranked out 13 hits, scored three runs in the
third and fourth innings and rode a solid, complete-game pitching effort from
senior Jess Byrn (Safety Harbor, Fla./Countryside) to take the 6-1 victory.
Byrn held the Huskies scoreless over the first six innings, yielding a
harmless run in the top of the seventh, to improve her record to 7-3 on the
season. Byrn scattered seven hits, walked none and struck out eight.
Giuliano, Cohen and freshman Jess Winer (Longmeadow, Mass.) each drove in a
run in the third inning for Babson. Cohen connected on a double while Giuliano
hit a triple to center field. In the fourth, Clark collected an RBI on a single
to center field, and Byrn drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Beavers’
scored their third run of the inning during a rundown.
USM senior pitcher Kristina Grondin (Sanford, Maine) gave up 13 hits in six
innings. Grondin did not give up a walk and struck out five. Sevigny drove in
the Huskies’ lone run.

for five hits and drove in five runs to lead the Rhode Island College
Anchorwomen to a 20-7 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the

Providence, Rhode Island. Rhode Island College defeated USM 14-0 in five
innings in the first game of the day to earn the sweep.
With the two wins, Rhode Island College improves to 14-4 overall and starts
the Little East Conference season 2-0. Southern Maine dips to 5-7 overall and
0-2 in the conference. The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played
at USM, but was move to Providence because snow still covers the USM field.
The Anchorwomen tagged two USM hurlers for 19 hits in the second game,
including five from Perry and four from senior Christie Lotti (Waterford,
Conn.).
RIC jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings. The Huskies rallied

pull to within four, 10-6, after six innings.
Freshman Sarah Deroche (Portland, Maine/Deering) put the Huskies on the
board in the fourth with an RBI single, while senior Kristina Grondin (Sanford,
Maine) cranked out a two-run double in the fifth. In the sixth, sophomore India
Lowe (Gloucester, Mass.) connected on a single to plate two runs and junior
Anita Dixon (Limington, Maine/Bonny Eagle) knocked in a run with a single.
However, RIC closed out the game in the seventh plating 10 runs on five
hits, six walks and a pair of USM fielding miscues. The Huskies got a run back
in the bottom of the inning on a Lowe single for her third RBI of the game.
In the first game, the Anchorwomen pounded out 14 hits and freshman Melanie
Neece (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore Jamie Sacco (Bellingham, Mass.) combined
to hold the Huskies scoreless while allowing just two hits to earn a 14-0, five-
inning shutout. Neece, the starting pitcher, allowed just two hits and struck
out five batters in four innings pitched to earn the victory and improve to 7-1
overall. Grondin took the loss for the Huskies to fall to 2-1 on the season.
The Anchorwomen showed power offensively stroking seven extra base hits off
Grondin, including home runs from sophomore Cassandra Taverna (Bedford, Mass.)
and freshman Chelsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Southern Maine junior
Sabrina Mills (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) collected both of the Huskies'
hits in the game, banging out a double and a triple.

Huskies Split Final Two Games in Florida
Fall to Otterbein 7-6; Defeat SUNY-Potsdam 7-6 in 8 Innings
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Freshman Sarah Cusack (Wells, Maine) laced a line
drive up the middle to drive in the game-winning run as the University of
Southern Maine Huskies rallied from a one-run deficit in the bottom of the
eighth inning to defeat the SUNY-Potsdam Bears 7-6 Tuesday morning at the Gene
Cusic Classic at the Lee County Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. The Huskies
dropped to their first game of the day to the Otterbein College Cardinals 7-6.
With the split, Southern Maine concludes its 10-game Florida trip with a 5-
5 record. Otterbein College improved to 4-5 while Potsdam fell to 3-5.
Against Potsdam, Southern Maine jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three
innings of play. The Huskies used a two-run single from freshman Sarah Stuart
(Belgrade, Maine) in the first inning and a two-run triple down the right field
line from freshman Heather Gilman (Fairfield, Maine/Lawrence) in the third to
take command.
The Bears roared in the fourth inning with a two-out rally, tagging USM
freshman pitcher Sarah Deroche (Portland, Maine/Deering) for three runs. Junior
Ashley McCoy (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) hit a two-run double to left-
center field, and later came around to score on a triple by freshman Susan
Garrett (Queens Village, N.Y./St. Francis). Deroche ended the Bears rally with
a ground out to get out of the inning with USM clinging to a 5-3 lead.
Garrett drove in her second run of the game in the sixth with a single to
right field scoring freshman Kari Frego (Norwood, N.Y./Norwood-Norfolk). Frego
reached base safely on a USM throwing error for the unearned run.
Continuing their rally, the Bears pulled even with the Huskies in the top
of the seventh on a RBI single from junior Jocelyn Cole (Heulvelton, N.Y.).
With a runner placed on second base to start the eighth inning, the Bears
parlayed a fielder’s choice and a USM throwing error into a run to go ahead 6-5.
The Bears looked poised to break the game open with the bases loaded and no
outs, but the Huskies were able to shore up their defense and get out of the
inning. Southern Maine got a force out at home for the first out, and then
sophomore India Lowe (Gloucester, Mass.) made a running grab in the outfield to
prevent an extra base hit and doubled up the runner at second for an inning-
ending double play.
Trailing 6-5 with Stuart placed on second, Southern Maine got two runners
in scoring position following a bunt single from junior Sabrina Sevigny
(Sanford, Maine) that moved Stuart to third, and a stolen base by Sevigny.
After a popout, junior Meghan Ford (Mechanic Falls, Maine/Poland Regional) came
through with a pinch-hit ground out RBI to the first base side to tie the score
at 6-6 to set up Cusack for the game-winning hit.
Deroche earned her second win in as many starts for USM allowing six hits
and four walks over eight innings, while striking out seven batters. SUNY-
Potsdam sophomore Megan Strough (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) took the loss
yielding 10 hits and four walks in 7.2 innings.
In the first game, Otterbein scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to
break a 5-5 tie and held on for the win with solid defense in the seventh to
defeat Southern Maine 7-6.
In the fifth, Otterbein’s first three batters reached base safely to load
the bases. Otterbein plated the go-ahead runs on an infield throwing error of
freshman Brittany Byers’ (Westerville, Ohio/South) ground ball. The Huskies
were able to get out of the inning without any further damage as sophomore
pitcher Larissa O’Connor (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) retired the next three
batters in order on a pop fly and consecutive ground outs.
Southern Maine rallied for a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single
by Deroche. However, Otterbein limited the Huskies to just one run by recording
a difficult, third-to-first double play prior to Deroche’s at-bat. Otterbein
ended the USM threat when sophomore Felicia Vermaaten (Newark, Ohio) scooped up
a driven ground ball and flipped it to second base to retire the side.
O’Connor took the loss for Southern Maine giving up six hits and five walks
in six innings. She stands at 1-4 on the season. Otterbein junior pitcher
Kristina Hayes (Upper Arlington, Ohio) earned the win pitching three innings
after relieving freshman starter Nadine Bower (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy)
to start the fifth inning. Hayes allowed just four hits and one run over the
final three frames.
Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) when it travels to
Rhode Island College for its Little East Conference opener. The doubleheader
was originally scheduled to be played at USM, but the field in Gorham is still
covered by snow.

Southern Maine Defeats Alverno and Oberlin
CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Freshman Sarah Deroche (Portland, Maine/Deering)
combined a 3-for-6 effort at the plate and a complete game in the circle to lead
the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a pair of wins Monday morning in the
Gene Cusic Classic at the Cape Coral Sports Complex in Cape Coral, Florida.
Deroche cranked out a pair of triples in the Huskies' 8-5 win over the
Alverno College Inferno in the first game, then paced the Huskies by limiting
the Oberlin College Yeowomen to three hits over five innings to earn a 9-1,
five-inning win in the second game.
With the pair of victories, Southern Maine gets back to the .500 mark a
4-4. Alverno, dropping its second straight game, falls to 2-5, while Oberlin
remains winless at 0-4.
The Huskies jumped on the Inferno early tagging freshman pitcher Brianne
Porter (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) for two home runs in the first inning.
Junior Anita Dixon (Limington, Maine/Bonny Eagle) led off the inning with a solo
shot down the left field line to put the Huskies on the board. Two batters
later, junior Sabrina Mills (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) sent a line drive
shot to the left-center field gap for an early 2-0 lead.
The Huskies went ahead 6-0 in the bottom of the second scoring four runs a
two-run single from sophomore Tiffany Jordan (Bryant Pond, Maine/Telstar
Regional), a sacrifice bunt from sophomore India Lowe (Gloucester, Mass.) and a
sacrifice fly to center field from Mills.
Alverno notched a pair of runs in the top of the third on back-to-back home
runs from freshman Melissa Bankenbush (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) and senior
SS Lea Colon (Antioch, Ill./Kenosha Bradford), but the Huskies answered back
with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Deroche drove in a run
with an RBI triple to deep center field and junior Meaghan Ford (Mechanic Falls,
Maine/Poland Regional) brought Deroche home with a sacrifice bunt.
Alverno fought back for another run in the top of the fourth on an RBI
single from junior Elizabeth Malko (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) and added two
more in the top of the seventh following a two-run home run from Bankenbush.
The Inferno threatened with a runner on second and one out, but USM sophomore
pitcher Larissa O'Connor (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) was able to get the final
two outs on a fly ball and a ground out.
O'Connor earned her first win of the season pitching seven innings,
allowing eight hits and four walks while striking out two. Porter took the loss
for Alverno giving up eight runs on seven hits and two walks. Sophomore Jessica
Goetz (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) relieved Porter in the third inning and
finished the game with four hitless innings of shutout relief.
In the second game, Deroche scattered three hits and did not walk a batter
over five innings while fanning four to pick up her first collegiate victory.
The Huskies exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning to break
open a close game en route to the 9-1 final.
Deroche retired eight consecutive batters after yielding a game-opening
single. Deroche was able to keep the Oberlin bats quiet until the top of the
fourth when she was nicked for a run on a pair of singles and an infield error.
The rookie hurler spotted her team a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first
with an RBI single. The Huskies notched eight runs in the bottom of the third
to put the game away. The Huskies rapped out five hits in the inning, including
two-run singles from freshmen Heather Gilman (Fairfield, Maine/Lawrence),
freshmen Joseline Belanger (Mexico, Maine/Telstar Regional) and junior Sabrina
Sevigny (Sanford, Maine/Sanford).
Oberlin plated its run in the fourth on an RBI single from sophomore Julia
Chauvin (Hillsborough, N.C./Orange). It would be the only run the Yeowomen
would score as Deroche retired the next six batters she face in order to earn
the win. Sophomore pitcher Jen Sees (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) took the loss
for Oberlin allowing 11 hits and three walks in four innings.

Academy) and freshman OF Sarah Cusack (Wells, Maine/Wells). Cusack and Mills
each reached base safely stroking a single, while Jordan took advantage of an
error on a sacrifice bunt to load the bases for Dixon. Dixon came around to
score on the play following a throwing error, to put the Huskies ahead 4-0.
In the fourth inning, Dixon continued her clutch hitting with her second
triple as the Huskies scored six runs helping invoke the eight-run rule. Cusack
drove in Southern Maine's first run with a single up the middle. Dixon drove in
the next three runs, scoring Cusack, Mills and Jordan. Mills and Jordan both
reached base drawing walks. Junior catcher Sabrina Sevigny (Sanford,
Maine/Sanford) and freshman DH Sarah Stuart (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee) drove
in the final runs of the inning on RBI singles.
The Saints rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out,
two-run homer to right-center field by sophomore OF Amy Atkins (Westerlo,
N.Y./Doane Stuart), but USM senior pitcher Kristina Grondin (Sanford,
Maine/Sanford) was able to battle her way out of further trouble after giving up
two singles by inducing a fielder's choice grounder.
Saint Lawrence threatened in the bottom of the fifth with two runners on
and no outs. Dixon snagged a line drive and doubled up the runner at first base
for an unassisted double play, and Grondin notched her sixth strikeout of the
game for the final out.
Grondin improved to 2-0 on the season allowing six hits and two walks over
five innings. Pioneer freshman pitcher Megan Goodemote (Queensbury, N.Y.)
allowed 10 earned runs on eight hits and three walks in 3.1 innings pitched to
take the loss.
In the second game, Wisconsin-Superior scored six runs in the first two
innings to defeat the Huskies. Trailing 2-0 in the first, the Yellow Jackets
charged back for three runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in
the second. The Yellow Jackets plated three more runs in the fourth and scored
their final run in the fifth for the 10-2 win.
Junior Becky Crane (Altoona, Wis.), sophomore Jen Parchem (Baraboo, Wis.)
and junior Brooke Bailey (Superior, Wis.) each connected for three hits to pace
the 12-hit Wisconsin-Superior attack. Bailey drove in three runs for the Yellow
Jackets, while senior OF Alyson Lundberg (Osseo, Wis.) matched Bailey in RBI
cranking out a three-run triple in the bottom of the fourth.
Wisconsin-Superior junior pitcher Nichole Tessier (Hermantown, Minn.)
earned the win for the Yellow Jackets spreading out four hits in five innings
while striking out six. USM sophomore pitcher Larissa O'Connor (Farmington,
Maine/Mt. Blue) took the loss allowing four runs on six hits in 1.2 innings
pitched.

Dixon, Ford and Grondin Named USM Softball Captains
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Kristina Grondin (Sanford, Maine) and juniors
Meghan Ford (Mechanic Falls, Maine/Poland Regional) and Anita Dixon (Limington,
Maine/Bonny Eagle) have been named captains of the 2008 University of Southern
Maine Huskies softball team. Veteran head coach Bonny Brown-Denico made the
announcement as the Huskies prepare for their annual spring trip to Fort Myers,
Florida.
Southern Maine, which began preparations for the upcoming season in
January, opens the 2008 campaign this week with 10 games in Florida. Last
season, the Huskies finished fourth in the Little East Conference with a
respectable 8-6 record and a 19-22 overall mark. Despite returning eight
players from last season, Southern Maine's roster will be young and
inexperienced. Only three of the eight returnees were regulars in the lineup
last season.
"Kristina, Meghan and Anita's leadership will be essential to the success
of our team this season," noted Brown-Denico who was named the 2007 Little East
Conference Coach of the Year. "They will be the anchors in our lineup. Their
experience and decision-making ability on and off the field will be vital to our
new and less experienced players."
A veteran outfielder, Ford returns to the Huskies lineup with two years of
experience. Last season, Ford played in 35 games, including 34 starting
assignments. One of Southern Maine's defensive leaders, Ford patrolled left and
right field for the Huskies' making just one error during the season for a .971
fielding percentage. She batted .191 with two doubles, one triple and six RBI.
The team's only senior, Grondin earned second team All-Little East
Conference in 2007. Transferring to Southern Maine from Dean College, Grondin
made an immediate impact in the circle and at the plate. Grondin finished the
2007 season with a 15-10 record and a pair of shutouts. As USM's top pitcher,
Grondin allowed 81 earned runs in 171.2 innings pitched for a 3.30 ERA with 87
strikeouts.
Offensively, Grondin provided the Huskies with power, batting .361 (44-for-
122). She led the team with 36 RBI, rapped out 16 doubles and five home runs,
and had a team-high .615 slugging percentage. Grondin's 16 doubles established
a new single-season record, while her RBI and home run (5) totals are second
most for a season.
An adept utility player, Dixon played seven different positions for the
Huskies in 2007, earning National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New
England Third Team and second team All-Little East Conference honors in her
first season with Southern Maine. Dixon led Southern Maine offensively, batting
a team-high .423 with 52 hits in 123 at bats. Dixon posted a .537 slugging
percentage helped by 10 doubles, a pair of triples and 14 runs batted in.
Playing every position in the field except shortstop, pitcher and right field,
Dixon recorded a .925 fielding percentage with 64 putouts and 22 assists.
Picked to finish fifth for the third consecutive season in the Little East
Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, Southern Maine begins its season Thursday
(9:00 a.m.) against Albright College in Florida. The Huskies will face Roger
Williams University later the same day (1:00 p.m.).
The remainder of the Huskies schedule in Florida is as follows: March 21,
St. Lawrence (9:00 a.m.) and Wisconsin-Superior (11:00 a.m.); March 22, SUNY-

and Oberlin (11:00 a.m.), and March 25, Otterbein (9:00 a.m.) and SUNY-Potsdam

Upon their return to New England, the Huskies are scheduled to host Rhode
Island College in their Little East Conference and home opener on March 29 (1:00
p.m.) before closing out the month at Babson College for a doubleheader on March
30 (12:00).

two-time Little East Conference Player of the Year Christie Lotti (Waterford,
Conn.). The Anchorwomen play their first 10 games of the season at the Rebel
