USM's Tina West Named 2002 NCAA Woman of the Year for the State of Maine

GORHAM, Maine -- Kristina B. "Tina" West, a two-sport athlete at the
University of Southern Maine, was among the 50 state winners recently announced
for the 2002 National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Woman
of the Year
Award.
West is the second USM student-athlete in the past five years
to win the
coveted state honor. Heather Gilmour, a four-year field hockey standout and
present field hockey head coach at Regis College, received the honor in 1998.
"I was definitely shocked," replied West about her reaction
to receiving
notice of the award. "I opened (the letter) up and called my mother
right away.
I never believed I had a chance of winning."
"Tina was an obvious choice as our institutional nominee," commented Al
Bean, Director of Athletics. "She is an outstanding young woman, a quality
athlete and seen as a leader by her peers and the staff. She has
been extremely
involved in community service projects at USM and in the community at
large, and
is liked and respected by everyone she comes in contact with."
"(Tina) was a tremendous team leader. She's the type of leader all the
other players could count on on and off the field," commented women's soccer
head coach Steve Quinones. "She is the perfect example of what a student-
athlete should be. It was a pleasure to have her around our program the past
four years."
"Tina is highly deserving of this honor," added softball head
coach Bonny
Brown-Denico. "She is a phenomenal young lady with great leadership skills.
She has the respect of her peers and the entire staff."
West was a four-year member of the Huskies' women's soccer and softball
teams, and served as a captain of both squads. A right back for the soccer
team, she appeared in 67 games, starting 51, and scored two goals and was
credited with two assists for six points. A second baseman-outfielder for the
softball team, she compiled a career .312 batting average (30 for 96) with 17
RBI and 25 runs scored.
She was involved with the University's Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee
(SAAC), and served as the SAAC President during the 2001-2002 academic year.
She also was part of the ACES (Athletes Committed to Education and Sports)
mentoring program, and attended the 2001 NCAA Leadership Conference in Florida
Among her other activities were coaching at local youth softball and
soccer clinics, serving as a choreographer and dancer for "Dance USM!" and as a
musical and dance choreographer at the local high school.
A Dean's List student every semester, West is a four-time winner of the
Athletic Department's William Wise Scholar-Athlete Award, and received a
Cumberland County Outstanding Merit Scholarship four times. She is presently
serving an internship in the athletic director's office while finishing her
degree in communication with a minor in business.
Since 1991, the NCAA has annually honored female
student-athletes who have
excelled in academics, athletics and community service. The state winners were
selected by a committee comprised of representatives from NCAA member schools,
and chaired by Jacqie McWilliams, assistant athletics director at Morgan State
University. The 50 state winners were chosen from more than 340 nominations.
Ten finalists will be announced later this month. The NCAA
Committee on
Women's Athletics will select the NCAA Woman of the Year from among the ten
finalists. The winner will be announced at an awards dinner Saturday, November
2, in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is the 12th year that the Women's
of the Year
Award has been given.

Cougars Edge Huskies in ECAC Tournament, 1-0

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior pitcher Aimee Lee (Worcester,
Mass.) hurled a
three-hitter and drove in the game's only run to give the top-seeded Clark
University Cougars a dramatic 1-0 victory over the eighth-seeded University of
Southern Maine Huskies in a first round game of the Eastern College Athletic
Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Softball Championship tournament
Wednesday afternoon.
The win moves the Cougars into this weekend's four-team, double-
elimination finals that will be played at Clark. The Cougars are now 26-10.
Southern Maine ended its season 28-17-1.
Lee and USM freshman right-hander Melissa Henderson
(Newburyport, Mass.)
hooked up in a scoreless pitchers duel through the first six innings before Lee
ended things in the seventh.
Senior Holly Scavone (Worcester, Mass.) led off the bottom of
the seventh
with a bunt single. The speedster came all the way around to score the game's
only run when Lee double into the left-center field gap.
Southern Maine had two threats in the game, but could not
come up with a
timely base hit. The Huskies stranded a runner at third in the third as the
result of an outstanding defensive play by Clark. In the sixth, USM loaded the
bases with two outs on a single by sophomore Sunshine Anders (Richmond, Maine),
a walk to junior Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine) and a single by junior Sarah
McLean (Portsmouth, R.I.), but Lee escaped by getting sophomore Darci Holland
(Buckfield, Maine) to fly out to center field.
Lee, 14-6 on the season, allowed only three hits and three walks over
seven innings while striking out four. Henderson allowed only three hits, did
not walk a batter, and fanned six to finish her rookie campaign 16-8.
This was Southern Maine's fourth trip to the ECAC tournament
(1987, 1997,
2000, 2002). It was the first time that Clark and Southern Maine have faced
each other on the softball diamond.

Little East Conference Tournament -- Championship Round
USM Drops 3-2 Heartbreaker to Western Connecticut in Game Seven
Huskies Force Deciding Game with 5-3 Win Over Colonials

DANBURY, Conn. -- Sophomore Sarah Zaslaw (Stoughton, Mass.) was named
the most outstanding player after hurling a complete victory to give the top-
seeded Western Connecticut State University Colonials a thrilling 3-2 win over
the sixth-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies in the seventh and
deciding game of the double-elimination Little East Conference Softball
Championship Tournament at Westside Field Saturday afternoon.
The tournament championship was the second straight for the
Colonials, and
also earned them an automatic berth in the upcoming NCAA Division III national
championship tournament. Western Connecticut is now 30-7-1 overall.
Southern Maine, trying to come through the losers bracket,
needed to win
three games on Saturday to capture the crown. The Huskies eliminated Plymouth
State College 3-2 in the first game of the day, then came back to
defeat Western
Connecticut 5-3 in the middle game to force the seventh and deciding
game. This
was the first time in the five-year history of the tournament that it has gone
to a seventh game.
In the championship game, Western Connecticut came back from a 2-1
deficit, scoring twice in the sixth inning. Sophomore Katie Wardlow (Old
Bridge, N.J.) drove in the tying run with a double, then scored what proved to
be the winning run on sophomore Cathy Knapp's (Monroe, Conn.) RBI single.
Southern Maine had scored a single run in the second inning on an
outfielder's error handling junior Katie True's (Chelmsford, Mass.) single that
allowed sophomore Darci Holland (Buckfield, Maine) to score. The Huskies
grabbed the lead against Zaslaw in the fourth when junior Jessie Becher (South
Paris, Maine) singled home junior Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine).
Southern Maine pounded out 11 hits against Zaslaw in the first
championship game to come away with a 5-3 win. Each team scored twice in the
first inning before USM sophomore Sunshine Anders (Richmond, Maine) double in
the go-ahead run in the second. The Huskies added single tallies in the third
on True's RBI groundout, and in the fourth during a rundown on a double steal
attempt.
Freshman right-hander Melissa Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.)
pitched all
21 innings for the Huskies, picking up a pair of wins to run her
record to 16-7.
She allowed only one earned run in 14 innings against Western Connecticut. Her
16 wins ties the school single season record for most wins set by Erica Gagnon
in 1999. Henderson also passed Gagnon's single season strikeout mark in the
Plymouth State game, and now has 143 strikeouts for the season.
USM will await word Monday on a possible berth in the ECAC Division III
New England tournament.

Southern Maine Sweeps Bates for 12th Consecutive Win

LEWISTON, Maine - Freshman pitcher Melissa Henderson
(Newburyport, Mass.)
twirled a two-hitter in the opener, and junior Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine)
and sophomore Sunshine Anders (Richmond, Maine) struck for a home run and three
RBI apiece in the nightcap to lead the University of Southern Maine
Huskies to a
doubleheader sweep of the host Bates College Bobcats in non-league
action Sunday
afternoon in Lewiston, Maine.
The Huskies invoked the eight-run rule in the first game, as
they built a
9-0 lead through five innings of play, thereby ending the contest. By contrast,
the club used a six-run seventh inning to score a 12-6 triumph in the second
game. With the two wins, Southern Maine extended its winning streak to 12 in a
row, and improved to 23-11-1, while Bates fell to 5-20.
The Huskies took control of the opener by scoring eight runs
in the second
inning. Anders led the offensive charge with a two-run double, while junior
Sarah McLean (Portsmouth, R.I.) added an RBI single, and junior Katie True
(Chelmsford, Mass.) drove in a run.
After surrendering a lead-off double, Henderson retired 11 straight
batters before yielding a two-out single in the fourth. She proceeded to retire
four straight batters to earn her 12th win of the season.
Southern Maine had difficulty shaking Bates in the second game. The
Huskies built a 3-0 lead in the second, but the Bobcats responded with one in
the second and two in the third to tie the affair. The Huskies
regained a three-
run advantage at 6-3 in the top of the fifth, but the Bobcats plated three in
the bottom of the frame to knot the score at 6-6.
The Huskies finally pulled ahead for good with six runs in the seventh.
Anders smacked a two-run single in the inning, while Heath added a run-scoring
single. Sophomore Emily Forbes (North Berwick, Maine) and True also drove in
runs in the inning.
Freshman Kari Vance (Lincoln, Maine), who threw two and
two-thirds innings
of scoreless relief, earned the win.

hosts Plymouth
State and Bates entertains Bowdoin.

Southern Maine Sweeps Salem State to Extend Winning Streak to Eight

GORHAM, Maine - Freshman Melissa Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) fired a

Southern Maine and Bridgewater Engage in a Pair of Pitchers' Duels

GORHAM, Maine - Bridgewater State College and the University
of Southern
Maine hooked up in a pair of pitchers' duels, with Bridgewater taking
the opener
by a 1-0 margin, while the teams battled to a scoreless tie through
nine innings
of play before the nightcap was halted by darkness.
Bridgewater State improved to 8-11-1, while Southern Maine fell to
11-11-1.
The opener featured a showdown between Bridgewater State senior Betsy
Ahearn (Paxton, Mass.) and Southern Maine freshman Melissa Henderson
(Newburyport, Mass.). Ahearn, who fanned nine and scattered six hits,
earned the
win, while Henderson, who yielded but three hits and struck out seven, was the
hard luck loser.
Pinch runner Amy Napert (Fall River, Mass.) scored the lone run of the
game, after replacing freshman Natalie Ardagna (Revere, Maine), who
drew a lead-
off walk. Napert took second on a sacrifice bunt, and came home on a double by
junior Jennifer Plausse (Brockton, Mass.)
The Huskies threatened in the bottom of the frame, as juniors
Renee Heath
(Brunswick, Maine) and Jessie Becher (South Paris, Maine) recorded back-to-back
two out singles. Ahearn silenced the uprising, by recording her ninth
strike out
of the day to end the contest.
The second game witnessed another stellar pitching match-up between
Southern Maine junior Jodie Eldridge (Westbrook, Maine) and the Bridgewater
State tandem of senior Amanda Sanson (North Dighton, Mass.) freshman
Jen Quental
(Swansea, Mass.). Eldridge endured her most difficult inning in the first, when
she faced six batters and surrendered a pair of singles. However, she settled
down to retire 24 of the next 27 batters.
Sanson went the first seven innings for the Bears, fanning four and
allowing four hits, before yielding to Quental, who retired the six Huskies she
faced. Southern Maine had its best scoring opportunity in the bottom of the
seventh, when Emily Forbes (South Berwick, Maine) roped a two-out triple.
However, she remained there as Sanson retired the final batter she
would face on
the day.
The teams return to action on Thursday, when each will play a road

Becher struck out two and yielded two hits.

Lindsay Ladd (Keene, N.H.) reached on an error, took second on a
sacrifice bunt,
advanced to third on a single and later scored on the Huskies' second error of
the inning, and third of the game.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The University of Southern Maine Huskies continued
their successful Florida swing by winning two-of-three contests to
improve to 8-
2 and provide seventh-year head coach Bonnie Brown-Denico with
career-win number
150.
In three close contests, the Huskies rallied to beat Union
College, 3-2,
before being blanked by Endicott College, 3-0. However, Southern
Maine rebounded
to post a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-White Water. Union fell to 1-2, while Endicott
improved to 2-1, and White Water dropped to 2-1.
In the opener, Union broke a scoreless tie with a single run
in the fifth,
but Southern Maine responded with a pair in the bottom of the sixth
on a two-run
triple by freshman second baseman Emily Forbes (North Berwick, Maine). Union
rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh.
In the home half of the inning, sophomore Sunshine Anders (Richmond,
Maine) stroked a one-out triple. Anders appeared to be stranded when senior
Sarah Johnston (Troy, N.Y.) fanned her fourth batter for the second out.
However, Anders scampered home with the winning run on a wild pitch.
Junior Jodie Eldridge (Westbrook, Maine) struck out three and went the
distance to improve her record to 2-1, while Johnston fell to 1-2.
In the middle contest, the Huskies could manage only one hit off junior
pitcher Renee Kelly (Brewster, N.Y.), who fanned 12 for the complete
game win in
her season debut on the hill.
The lone Southern Maine hit was a fourth-inning single by
Anders. Freshman
Kari Vance (Lincoln, Maine), who gave up six singles and one earned
run, fell to
1-1.
Anders again scored the winning run in the nightcap, as she
drew a two-out
walk in the bottom of the third, before stealing second and later
scoring when a
White-Water infielder could not cleanly field a ground ball off the bat of
junior Sarah McLean (Portsmouth, R.I.).
Freshman Melissa Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) kept the
Warhawks at bay,
by scattering five hits, and striking out a single batter to run her record to
4-0, and extend her string of scoreless innings to 23. Senior Heather Wendt
(Hampshire, Ill.), who surrendered one hit through four innings of
work, fell to

Southern Maine Wins Three, Improves to 6-1
Huskies off to Best Start in 15 Years

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The University of Southern Maine posted a pair of
five-inning triumphs over Suffolk (13-2) and SUNY-Fredonia (9-0),
before working
extra innings to defeat Wisconsin-Stevens Point (5-4) to improve its overall
record to 6-1, which marks its best start to a season since the 1987 contingent
began the year at 15-1.
In each of the first two games of the day, the Huskies
invoked the eight-
run rule to curtail the contest after five innings of play. In the opener,
Southern Maine broke open a scoreless tie with seven runs in the
second, added a
single run in the third, and plated five in the fourth to build a 13-2 lead.
Suffolk, which slipped to 0-9, was held scoreless in the top of the fifth.
The offensive stars were sophomore Darci Holland (Buckfield,
Maine), who
went 3-for-3, with a home run, drove in two runs and scored three,
and sophomore
Sunshine Anders (Richmond, Maine), who homered in two trips to the plate and
drove in four runs.
Sophomore pitcher Larisa Sobey (Pittsfield, Maine), who fanned five,
scattered three hits, and surrendered two earned runs in 3.1 innings of work,
earned the win, while freshman Kari Vance (Lincoln, Maine) fanned two of the
five batters she face to close out the game. Sophomore Erin Pagel (Braintree,
Mass.) suffered the loss to fall to 0-5.
Against SUNY-Fredonia, which dipped to 1-1, Southern Maine
scored a pair
of runs in each of the first three innings, before adding a trio in the fourth.
Junior shortstop Sarah McLean (Portsmouth, R.I.), gave the club an early lead,
by launching a two-run homer to straight-away centerfield in the bottom of the
first inning. Junior Jessie Becher (South Paris, Maine) added a two-run single
in the second, and freshman Natasha Jackson (Augusta, Maine) also
knocked in two
with a fourth-inning single.
Vance surrendered but three singles in four innings of work to earn her
first win, while junior Jodie Eldridge (Westbrook, Maine) fanned the
side in the
top of the fifth. Junior Stacie Peters (Silver Creek, N.Y.) was
charged with the
loss in her first decision of the season.
In the final game of the day against Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the teams
were tied at 4-4 through seven innings of play, and the tie-breaker procedures
were set in place to begin the eighth-inning. Anders, who made the final out of
the seventh, began the eighth inning on second base. She took third on a single
by McLean, and later scored the game-winning run on a delayed double steal, in
which McLean was gunned down at second.
In the bottom of the eighth, Stevens Point began play with senior Nikki
Best (Portage, Wisc.) on second base, but she was quickly erased
trying to steal
third on a strong throw by junior catcher Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine).
Freshman pitcher Melissa Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.), who worked five
scoreless innings in relief of Eldridge, proceeded to fan the next two batters
to improve her record to 3-0.
For Stevens Point, which fell to 1-1, junior pitcher Karen Guckenberger
(South Milwaukee, Wisc.) went the distance, and struck out five, while
surrendering nine singles and four earned runs.
After playing seven games in three days, Southern Maine will be idle
tomorrow, but returns to action with a trio of games against Union,
Endicott and
Wisconsin-Whitewater on Monday.

Southern Maine Downs St. Lawrence, 6-5, and SUNY-Oneonta, 6-0

FORT MEYERS, Fla. - The University of Southern Maine swept a pair of
games as the Huskies rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to post
a thrilling 6-5 win over St. Lawrence University in the opener, before freshman
pitcher Melissa Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) scattered four singles
and fanned
seven en route to a 6-0 complete game shutout of SUNY-Oneonta in the second
game.
With the two wins, the Huskies improve to 3-1 on the young
season, while
St. Lawrence fell to 6-3, and SUNY-Oneonta dipped to 6-2.
In the first game, the Saints took the early lead with a run
in the top of
the first, but the Huskies responded with two runs in the bottom of
the third to
grab a 2-1 advantage. The score remained unchanged until the top of the seventh
frame, when the Saints parlayed a trio of singles and a pair of
errors into four
runs to grab a 5-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh.
The Huskies' began their comeback with two outs and two
runners on base,
when sophomore Sunshine Anders (Richmond, Maine) slapped a run-scoring single
into right field. Junior Sarah McLean (Portsmouth, R.I.) followed
with a two-run
double to the gap in left-center field to tie the game. McLean came home to
score the game-winning run when a St. Lawrence fielder misplayed a line drive
off the bat of junior Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine).
On the mound for the Huskies, junior Jessie Becher (South Paris, Maine)
went 6.1 innings, surrendering five runs, of which two were earned, and eight
hits, before yielding to junior Jodie Eldridge (Westbrook, Maine), who struck
out one of the three batters she faced to earn her second win of the
season. For
the Saints, Heather Tuttle (Rome, N.Y.), who gave up 12 hits and three earned
runs, was charged with the loss, dropping her record to 3-2.
The afternoon affair remained scoreless through three innings of play,
before the Huskies erupted for six runs in the fourth. Anders led off
the inning
with a double, and came home to score the eventual game-winning run on Heath's
two-run double. Other offensive stars for the Huskies were freshman
Emily Forbes
(North Berwick, Maine), who rapped a pair of singles and scored a run,
sophomore Angela Cote (York, Maine), who had an RBI-single, and Becher, who
singled, scored and drove in a run.
Henderson, who did not allow a runner past second base, registered her
second win of the season.

Suffolk, SUNY-
Fredonia and Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a tripleheader.

Southern Maine Opens Season by Splitting a Pair of Games

GORHAM, Maine — The University of Southern Maine commenced the 2002
campaign by splitting a pair of games, as the Huskies downed Wesleyan
University, 16-1, in the opener, before falling to Amherst College by a narrow
2-1 margin in the second game.
In the first game, Southern Maine pounded out 18 hits,
including nine for
extra bases, to invoke the eight-run rule and halt the game after five innings
of play. Junior catcher Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine) led the hit
parade, going
4-for-4, with two home runs and a double, and 5 RBI, while junior shortstop
Sarah McLean (Portsmouth, R.I.), went 3-for-3, with a home run and two doubles,
and drove in four runs. The only other Huskies to register multiple hits were
sophomore right fielder Sunshine Anders (Richmond, Maine), who had two singles,
and sophomore designated player Darci Holland (Dirigo, Maine), who roped a
double and a single. In all, 11 Southern Maine players had at least one hit.
After taking a 3-0 lead through one inning of play, the
Huskies broke the
game open with six runs in the third. Heath's first home run, a two-run shot,
highlighted the inning. The Huskies added five more in the third and two in the
fourth to account for the 16 runs.
On the hill, freshman Melissa Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.)
scattered two
hits, while fanning nine in four innings of work to earn the win. Freshman Kari
Vance (Lincoln, Maine) worked the fifth inning and surrendered the one run. The
loss dropped Wesleyan to 2-8.
In contrast to the first-game fireworks, the nightcap was a pitchers'
duel. Junior pitcher Jodie Eldridge (Westbrook, Maine), was the
hard-luck loser,
as she surrendered just two hits and fanned five, while going the distance.
Amherst senior pitcher Lauren Peloquin (Berkley, Mass.), who gave up six hits
and struck out six, went the distance to earn the win.
With the score tied at 1-1, Amherst junior shortstop Missy Mordy
(Sammamish, Was.) led off the top off the sixth with a walk. Mordy advanced to
second on a single by sophomore first baseman Gina Scribner (Star, Idaho) and
took third on a sacrifice bunt by junior second baseman Emily Melia (Hingham,
Mass.). Mordy scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by junior
outfielder Tamara Baer (Amherst, N.Y.).
The teams traded single runs in the first inning, with the Huskies’ run
coming when sophomore centerfielder Angela Cote (York, Maine) singled, stole
second and third, and scored on McLean's single to leftfield.
Southern Maine returns to action tomorrow, when it faces St. Lawrence at
9:00 am, and SUNY-Oneonta at 1:00 pm. Amherst improved to 4-3.

Softball Captains Named at USM

GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine seniors Tina
West (Gorham,
Maine) and Beth Fulton (Exeter, N.H.) and junior Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine)
have been named softball team captains for the 2002 season.
"This trio should provide us with outstanding leadership," commented
seventh-year head coach Bonny Brown-Denico. "All three are two-sport,
collegiate
athletes, who have played a leadership role in each sport."
Fulton recently concluded a four-year stint as captain of the Southern
Maine women's hockey program, while West served as captain of the
women's soccer
team last fall. Heath, a standout member of the field hockey program, has
gradually emerged as a team leader in that sport.
"Our roster features considerable returning talent and a
large number of
first-year players," said Brown-Denico. "We enter the year with high
expectations, but if we are to attain our goals, we will need to come together
quickly as a cohesive team. Our captains will be vital to fostering this team
unity."
Heath, who plays third base and transferred to Southern Maine
following a
year at the University of Maine Orono, earned second-team All-Little
East honors
after registering 35 hits, including 11 for extra bases, in 90 trips to the
plate for a .361 batting average. She scored 20 runs, drove in 12 and stole a
team-leading 10 bases.
"Renee is one of the league's best all-around players," said Brown-
Denico. "She complements her talent with a tremendous work ethic that
has gained
the respect and admiration of her teammates. She is a natural role
model for our
first-year players and returning veterans alike."
A three-year veteran catcher, Fulton will help a young-pitching staff
adjust to the collegiate game. She possesses quick reflexes behind
the plate and
the ability to call a strong game. Offensively, she has collected 45
hits and 14
RBI in 95 career contests.
"I don't know if anyone enjoys playing college athletics more than Beth
Fulton," said Brown-Denico. "At the same time, she is a fierce competitor and a
loyal teammate, who puts in an honest effort on a daily basis."
West, who enters her second year as captain of the softball team, has
performed well in limited time throughout her career. She posted a .333 batting
average a year ago, while she counts a triple and two doubles among her 23
career hits, and she has scored 19 runs while driving in 12.
"Tina is among the most-respected athletes on our team and
throughout the
Southern Maine athletic program," said Brown-Denico. "She is a natural leader,
who is comfortable in her role as captain, and has done a tremendous
job helping
our younger players make the transition to this level of play."
West, Fulton and Heath will help lead a 21-member roster composed of 12
returning veterans and nine first-year players. The Huskies, who compiled 21-14
overall mark and a 10-4 slate in Little East Conference play, will embark on a
40-game schedule, which includes a 12-game Florida swing, beginning
on Thursday,
March 21.
The Huskies’ complete 2002 schedule is as follows: March 21, Wesleyan
and Amherst (in Lee County, Fla.); March 22, St. Lawrence and SUNY-Oneonta (in
Lee County, Fla.);  March 23, Suffolk and SUNY-Fredonia (at Cape Coral, Fla.);
March 25, Union, Endicott and Wisconsin-White Water (at Cape Coral, FL) March
26, St. Lawrence and Middlebury (in Lee County, Fla.).
Southern Maine will close out the month of March by
commencing its Little
East schedule with a double-header at defending champion Western Connecticut on
March 30.
	The Huskies will continue their schedule on April 2, at Bowdoin (DH);
April 4, at St. Joseph's of Maine (DH); April 6, at Rhode Island College (DH);
April 7, Colby (DH); April 9, Bridgewater State (DH); April 11, at UMaine
Farmington (DH); April 13, at UMass Dartmouth (DH); April 16 UMass Boston (DH);
April 16, UMass Boston (DH); April 20, Eastern Connecticut (DH); April 21 at
Bates (DH); April 23 Plymouth State (DH); April 27 at Keene State (DH).
The six-team Little East Tournament includes first-round games on April
30, with the winners advancing to a four-team double-elimination tournament on
Friday-Saturday, May 3-4.
