Head Coach
Eric Miller
Eric
Miller begins his first year as head coach of the
USM Men's Soccer program in the fall of 2000. He
is the former assistant men's soccer coach at
the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta
where he worked for nine seasons with primary
responsibility for working with the goalkeepers in
that NCAA Division I program.
Miller, 35, served as an assistant coach with the
Oneonta women's team for three seasons before
joining the men's staff in 1991 and was the
volunteer head coach for the Oneonta Soccer Club
where he trained youth players.
Miller's sports career as a student at Oneonta
prepared him well for a career in coaching. He was a
two-time team captain and received the Oneonta
Athlete of the Year Award his senior year, 1987-88.
That same year he was chosen New York State second
selection.
Although this is his first head coaching position
at the collegiate level, Miller has a well defined
philosophy as he begins his tenure here. "I
have a dynamic mind for the game. I want to utilize
a 4-4-2 and play attacking soccer," he says.
"We'll build around the strengths of the
players we have available and adapt our systems to
those strengths."
Miller is a native of Jamaica and came to the
United States in 1980. He received his
bachelor's degree in business and economics from
Oneonta in 1988.
