with a .920 save percentage. He was the winning goalie in the games against
Bowdoin and Colby.
Against Bowdoin, Beckles stopped 37 of 38 shots, including all 18 in the
first period when the Polar Bears out shot the Huskies, 18-3. He had 24 saves
the next afternoon against Colby to earn the win. In one period at Plymouth
State, he allowed one goal while making eight saves.
For the season, Beckles has a 3.23 goals against average, an .887 save
percentage and a

seconds into the third period as he batted a rebound out of the air past
Papachristopoulos for a power-play goal. Carragher and sophomore Dane Marshall

Landry (Montreal, Quebec) and Adam Dann (Burlington, Vt.).

Carragher Hat Trick Leads USM Past UMass Boston, 7-1

GORHAM, Maine -- Junior center Mark Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI) scored
three goals to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's ice hockey
team to a 7-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons in an
ECAC East game Friday night at the USM Ice Arena.
The win was the third in the last four games for the Huskies who are now
4-9-2 overall and 3-5-2 in the league. UMass Boston remains winless on the

Carragher gave the Huskies a lead they would never relinquish when he
netted a power-play goal at 13:28 of the first period. That would be the only
goal of the period as UMB freshman goalie Chris Testa (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was
outstanding stopping 15 of the 16 shots he faced.
Freshman Ben Loss (Wilmette, Illinois) scored what proved to be the game-
winning goal early in the second period when he streaked to the net and
redirected a pass from sophomore Mike Stevens (Dover, N.H.) past Testa for a
power-play goal. Freshman Josh Giordani (Quincy, Mass.) made it 3-0 when a shot
from the blue bounced off a UMB defenseman, then off Giordani into the goal.
Carragher second goal of the night, shorthanded blast in the final minute of the
second period, made it 4-0.
Carragher completed his second career hat trick at 5:17 of the third.
Junior Bobby Siers (Mt. Prospect, Illinois) and Loss lit the lamp for USM to
make it 7-0.
The Beacons averted the shutout when freshman Robert Carbone (Bayside,
N.Y.) scored a power-play goal with 1.9 seconds to play.
     Carragher, Loss (2g, 1a) and freshman forward Kyle Smith (Auburn, Maine;
3a) each finished the night with three points apiece for the Huskies.

had an open net after skating around Southern Maine sophomore goaltender Ryan
Sullivan (Newton, Mass./Bridgton Academy), who had come out to cut off the angle
in transition.
The Jeffs took a 2-1 lead 2:52 later as senior Jack Greeley (Scituate,
Mass.) scored on a rebound after a shot by Landers from the right point was
stopped by Sullivan.
Amherst maintained the lead until the 15:24 mark of the third period when
Southern Maine tied the game as junior Chris Helms' (Sandwich, Mass./Bridgton
Academy) shot deflected into net off the skate of junior Marc Santuccio

The Jeffs answered with the game-winner just 1:02 later as senior Steve
Nelson (Wayzata, Minn.) scored from the doorstep on the left side after a nice

late with a flurry off shots with their netminder pulled, but they could not
find the back of the net.

saves for Amherst to earn the win. Sullivan made 10 stops for Southern Maine.

GORHAM, Maine -- Junior goalie Derek Jackson (Clinton, N.Y.) stopped 35
shots and freshman forward Ryan Mero (Peekskill, N.Y.) scored what proved to be
the game-winning goal to lead the St. Michael's College Purple Knights to a 5-1
victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in an ECAC East game
Friday night at the USM Ice Arena.
The win was the 250th for Purple Knights head coach Lou DiMasi, the only
coach in the history of the program. DiMasi, in his 24th season, now has a
250-275-17 career record.
Jackson stonewalled the Huskies through 55 minutes before surrendering a
goal. He was particularly strong in the second and third periods as the Huskies
out-shot the Purple Knights, 27-14, and had a number of good scoring
opportunities.
Mero, who set up the only goal of the first period, scored the eventual
game-winner at 3:53 of the middle period off a nice passing play by sophomore
Tim Dancey (Anaheim, Calif.), who had a power-play goal in the first period, and
junior Jared Silver (Montreal, Quebec). Junior Chris Thurston (Wallingford,
Conn.) would score the first of his two goals at 12:58 to make it 3-0 after two
periods.
Silver made it 4-0 with a short-handed goal at 6:22 of the third period.
Southern Maine finally got the puck past Jackson with 4:56 remaining as
junior Mark Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI) lit the lamp. Thurston's second
goal, off an assist from Mero, at 16:40 accounted for the final score.
Junior David Beckles (Stamford, Conn.) finished the game with 23 saves for
the Huskies. USM had a 36-28 advantage in shots on goal, but was hampered by
going 0 for 9 on the power play.
