Brian Aceto Named ECAC East Player of the Week
Derek Klowak Named to the Weekly Honor Roll

GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore right wing Brian Aceto (Gorham, Maine) of the
University of Southern Maine Huskies men's ice hockey team has been selected as
the Eastern College Athletic College (ECAC) East Player of the Week for the week
of January 8-14. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon by the ECAC office
in Centerville, Mass.
The ECAC also announced that freshman defenseman Derek Klowak (Burlington,
Ontario) had been named to the weekly honor roll.
Aceto was a bright spot over weekend for the Huskies tallying three goals
and an assist as USM split a pair of road games. In Friday night's game at
Wesleyan University, Aceto netted a goal and an assist in the Huskies 7-2 loss.
The next afternoon against Connecticut College, the 5-foot-9 winger scored twice
in the third period, including the game winning goal, to help the Huskies come
from behind to defeat the Camels, 4-2. The game winner was the first of his
career.
Klowak had two goals and an assist in the two games. He scored USM's
first goal in the game at Connecticut College and set up the tying goal early in
the third period. He had USM's second goal in the Wesleyan game.
"Brian obviously has been working very hard, and it finally paid off. He
took advantage of the opportunities that came his way last weekend. He's more
comfortable now that he's move back to his more natural position (right wing)
after helping the team get through a short-handed situation on the (left wing)
side," commented head coach Jeff Beaney.
"Derek has been getting better with every practice and game. He's making
the adjustments to this level of play, and he's really beginning to understand
what he's able to do on the ice."
With the four-point weekend, Aceto moved up into the seventh spot on the
Huskies scoring list with seven points on three goals and four assists. Klowak
is in sixth spot with two goals and seven assists for nine points.
Southern Maine will host a pair of games this weekend at the USM Ice
