Deedra Boudreau, Meg Cressler Share Hodgdon Award
GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine seniors Deedra (Beveridge)
Boudreau (Camden, Maine) and Meg Cressler (Appleton, Maine) have been selected by
the coaches and staff of the Department of Athletics as the 2003-2004 recipients
of the Paula D. Hodgdon Leadership Award. The awards were presented at the
Athletic Department's recent Senior Awards Night banquet.
The award is given annually to the female student-athlete who exemplifies the
qualities of Hodgdon, a former member of the faculty and field hockey coach who
was a pioneer in women's athletics. The recipient must have played at least three
years on an intercollegiate athletic team, been a valuable member of that team,
and is a woman who displays loyalty, dedication and commitment to the team, the
sport and USM.
A four-year standout for the Huskies' field hockey program, Boudreau also
played lacrosse the past two spring seasons. She ran indoor and outdoor track her
first two years in school.
Boudreau enjoyed the best season of her field hockey career this past fall,
scoring five goals, including two game-winning goals, and being credited with four
assists for 14 points. A tri-captain, she helped the Huskies to a record-setting
17-6 season that included the team's first Little East Conference title and a
berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
She was recognized for her outstanding play with a spot in the All-Little
East first team and a second team spot on the NFHCA All-Region team for the New
England West Region. She also was selected to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Game.
She concluded her career with 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 points in 89 games.
A two-time All-Little East Conference second team selection, Cressler had a
standout career on the basketball court. She became the 14th player in the
history of the women's basketball program to score 1,000 points when she reached
that milestone against Gordon College at the Grand Canyon Classic in late
December.
During the 2003-04 season, Cressler, the team's captain, averaged 8.3 points
and 5.4 rebounds in 13 games before a knee injury sent her to the sidelines. For
her four-year career, the 5-foot-8 shooting guard averaged 11.0 points and 5.2
rebounds in 95 games.
Among the many basketball honors she received, Cressler was named the Most
Outstanding Player of the 2002 Little East Conference championship tournament.
She also was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA)
second team in 2001-02, the MWBCA All-State first or second team on two occasions
and the MWBCA All-Rookie team in 2000-01.
Boudreau and Cressler are the first co-recipients of the award since it was
established in 1993-94.

Superchi (Campton, N.H./Plymouth Regional HS) was named to the Division III
All-American second team, becoming the first USM player since Meredith (Bradley)
Bickford in 1997 to receive NFHCA national honors. She joins Bradley, Kim Shaw
(1991), present USM head coach Bonny Brown-Denico (1990), Ashley Hayes (1989),
Kathy Corbin (1988) and Kris Potito (1988) as NFHCA Division III All-Americans.

Brown-Denico. "I am thrilled with her accomplishments this season and am very

desire over her four years is what made her an amazing player."
Superchi, the 2003 Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Year and
first team All-Little East, compiled a 0.97 goals against average by allowing only
23 goals in 1657 minutes of action. She made a school record 176 saves, had a

East championship to secure the school's first berth in the NCAA Division III
tournament since 1992.
During her stellar four-year career, the 5-foot-7 goalkeeper was named to the
NFHCA New England West All-Region team three times and the All-Little East squad
twice. She had a 1.08 goals against average with 24 shutouts while making a
record 531 saves.

Three USM Field Hockey Players Earn STX/NFHCA All-Region Honors
GORHAM, Maine -- Three members of the University of Southern Maine field
hockey team have been named to the 2003 STX/NFHCA Division III All-Region teams
from the New England West Region. The all-region teams for the six regions
nationally were announced Monday by Jennifer Goodrich, Executive Director of the
NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association).
Named to the New England West All-Region first team were senior forward Renee
Heath (Brunswick, Maine) and senior goalie Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.).
Earning a spot on the second team was senior midfielder Deedra Boudreau (Camden,
Maine).
Heath became the first player in the history of the USM program to be named
to the Division III All-Region first or second team four consecutive years.
Superchi has been named to the All-Region team three straight times, joining
Kristin Potito as the only other players to earn three All-Region honors. This is
the first time Boudreau has been named to an All-Region team.
"I'm absolutely thrilled for all three," an elated Bonny Brown-Denico, USM
head field hockey coach, said when she received the announcement. "These three
have been such an integral part of a group that has meant so much to this team the
last four years. I couldn't be happier for them."
Heath led the Huskies in scoring during the 2003 season collecting 10 goals
and eight assists for a career-best 28 points. She previously was named to the
Little East Conference All-Conference first team, and was selected as the Most
Outstanding Player at the LEC championship tournament. Heath finished her
distinguished four-year career playing in 89 games, scoring 34 goals, including 10
game-winning goals, and dishing off a record 23 assists for 91 points. Her 91
points ranks her third all-time in scoring at USM.
Superchi played all 1657 minutes of action in goal this season, compiling a
17-6 record with a 0.97 goals against average and 10 shutouts. She made a single-
season record 176 saves while allowing just 23 goals. The 2003 Little East
Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first team all-conference pick,
Superchi conclude her four-year career playing in 76 games with a 1.08 goals
against average, a record 531 saves, and 24 shutouts.
Boudreau had five goals and four assists for 14 points in 22 games this
season. An All-LEC first team pick, she had 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 points
in 89 career games.
The Huskies (17-6) finished the 2003 season winning a school record 17 games
and captured the team's first Little East Conference championship in the six years
of conference play. Southern Maine made its first appearance in the NCAA
tournament since 1992, and fifth all-time. USM lost a double-overtime heartbreaker
to defending national champion Rowan University, 2-1, last Saturday to be
eliminated from the tournament.
The season will last one more weekend for Superchi, who will play for the
North squad in the NFHCA Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game at Lebanon
Valley College. The game is part of the festivities at the NCAA Division III
National Championship Finals. Boudreau was chosen as an alternate for the game on
the North squad.

NCAA Division III Field Hockey Regional
ROWAN WINS OVERTIME THRILLER OVER SOUTHERN MAINE
MIDDLEBURY, Vermont - Senior Jackie Massara's (Hammonton, N.J.) goal with
five minutes left in the second overtime was the game-winner as defending national
champion Rowan University picked up a 2-1 win over the University of Southern
Maine in an NCAA Field Hockey Regional in Middlebury.
The Profs will take on Middlebury, who was a 3-2 winner over Montclair State,
in the Regional Final on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The winner of that game will advance
to the NCAA Finals next weekend at Lebanon Valley College.
Southern Maine, which had its 10-game winning streak stopped, jumped on the
board in the game's first 10 minutes when senior Renee Heath's (Brunswick, Maine)
shot from the outside was tipped past the goalkeeper by freshman Kerry Leonard
(Stamford, Conn.) at the 8:10 mark. That would be the only scoring in a first half
that saw Rowan with a decided advantage, including 7-2 in shots.
The second half was dominated by the Profs, as they earned seven penalty
corners in the first 15 minutes of the half, but were unable to solve the Huskies'
senior keeper, Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.) . Rowan had a great chance to tie
the game with 22:08 remaining, but a penalty stroke taken by senior Michelle
Thornton (Delran, N.J.) was saved by Superchi.
Rowan finally got on the scoreboard with 10:07 left to play with a goal
following a corner. Thornton's shot from the outside was saved by Superchi, before
the rebound came to senior Beth Raleigh (Cinnaminson, N.J.), who found the back of
the cage. With the game tied at one, Rowan continued to push and had a good chance
to win the game with 40 seconds remaining, but Raleigh's shot down low was stopped
by a pad save from Superchi.
In the first overtime, Rowan senior Becky Peterson (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.)
showed some impressive moves, leaving her an open shot that was stopped by one of
four defensive saves on the day from Southern Maine senior Amy Ouellette (Jay,
Maine). Superchi made another solid stop for Southern Maine on Thornton at the
4:43 mark, before Heath was stopped on a breakaway by Rowan senior keeper
Christine Buteas (South Plainfield, N.J.) late in the first overtime.
The second overtime was uneventful until Massara's game-winner with 5:00
remaining. Thornton sent the ball in, where it was tipped by Peterson between her
legs before Massara finished it off. The tip by Peterson, just to the right of
the cage, left Massara an open goal as Superchi had come out to save the tip
attempt.
Rowan held a 29-4 shot advantage and a 21-2 edge on penalty corners.

Six USM Field Hockey Players Earn All-LEC Honors
Jessie Superchi Named LEC Defensive Player of the Year
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference champion University of Southern
Maine Huskies field hockey team had six members named to the 2003 All-Conference
that was announced Monday by William M. Moore, commissioner of the Little East
Conference, following balloting by the head coaches.
In addition, Moore also announced the USM senior goalie Jessie Superchi
(Campton, N.H.) had been selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Superchi
is the second USM player to receive a Player of the Year award joining Sasha
Ilkovich who was named Player of the Year in 2001. The conference instituted
separate Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2002.
Named to the All-Little East first team were Superchi, senior forward Renee
Heath (Brunswick, Maine) and senior midfielder Deedra Boudreau (Camden, Maine).
Honored with spots in the All-Little East second team were senior forward Sarah
Dolley (Oakland, Maine), senior midfielder Darci Holland (Buckfield, Maine) and
senior back Amy Ouellette (Jay, Maine).
This is the fourth consecutive year that Heath has earned a spot on the all-
conference first or second squads. Superchi, Holland, Dolley and Ouellette are
receiving the second all-conference honor of their careers. This is the first
time Boudreau has been named to the conference's elite squad.
"Jessie is very deserving of these honors," offered head coach Bonny Bown-
Denico about her standout goalkeeper. "She is an extremely talented athlete who
has worked very hard to become a better goalie.
"She's a very humble person who never takes credit for her accomplishments.
She always likes to give the credit to her teammates. Every game she plays, she
gets better and better. She make extraordinary saves look easy and impossible
saves possible.
"These six seniors are very deseving of a spot on the all-conference teams.
They are an extraordinary group of young ladies who have challenged themselves and
each other every day. They're all hard-working, talented and motivated players
with a special passion for the game. They have been a great group of leaders who
didn't expect good things to just happen to them. They've worked to earn
everything that has come their way these past four years," added Brown-Denico.
Superchi has set numerous records this season, including most career saves
(511). A five-time LEC Defensive Player of the Week, she has compiled a 0.94
goals against average with 156 saves and a career-best 10 shutouts while playing
every minute. Over her stellar career, she has a 1.07 goals against average and
24 shutouts in 75 games.
Heath, named the Most Outstanding Player at last week's LEC championship
tournament, leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and seven assists for 27
points. During her four-year career, she has tallied 90 points, third all-time,
on 34 goals and 22 assists. She is the school record holder for career assists
and is tied for third in goals scored.
Holland, a four-year regular, has three goals and four assists for 10 points
this season. In 86 career games, Holland has 10 goals, including four game-
winning goal, and 15 assists for 35 points.
Dolley, who shares the school record with Ouellette for the most games played
(89), is second on the team in scoring with seven goals and seven assists for 21
points. Over the past four seasons, the speedy winger has collected 23 goals,
including eight game-winning goals, and 13 assists for 59 points.
Ouellette, who has started 88 of 89 games in her stellar career, has been the
leader of the defense playing in front of Superchi at her sweeper position.
During her four seasons, she has one assist and 16 defensive saves, including two
in the LEC title game last Saturday against Keene State.
Boudreau, a four-year regular and three-year starter in the midfield, has
enjoyed her best offensive season. In 21 games, Boudreau has scored five goals,
including two game winners, and dished out four assists for 14 points. In 88
career games, she has 11 goals and 10 assists for 31 points.
Southern Maine, 17-5 overall on the season and heading to the NCAA Division
III national championship tournament for the first time since 1992, won its first
Little East championship by beating arch-rivals Plymouth State University and
Keene State College last weekend at Keene, N.H.
The Huskies will play Rowan University in the second round of the NCAA
tournament this Saturday (1:00 p.m.) at Middlebury College. Midldebury will play
the winner of Wednesday's first round game between Montclair State College and New
England College in the first game Saturday (10:00 a.m.). The two winners Saturday

Little East Conference Championship Game
USM Huskies Win First LEC Title, Advance to NCAA Tournament
KEENE, N.H. -- Senior goalie Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.) stopped 18
shots and the third-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies scored on 3 of 6
penalty corners to defeat top-seeded Keene State College 3-1 in the championship
game of the 2003 Little East Conference Field Hockey tournament Saturday afternoon
at Owls Stadium.
The win was the tenth straight for the Huskies who improved 17-5 overall, and
won their first LEC championship in the six-year history of the tournament. The
win also carries an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship
Tournament. This will be USM's first appearance in the NCAA tournament since
1992, and its fifth all-time. The Huskies will find out when, where and whom they
will play late Sunday night.
Keene State, which had its nine-game winning streak stopped, finished the
season 16-6. The Owls will hope for a postseason bid in the ECAC New England
Championship field that will be announced sometime Monday.
Superchi was brilliant in the opening half, keeping the Owls off the
scoreboard despite an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. She continued her
outstanding play in the second half as the Owls kept applying offensive pressure.
Senior forward Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine) swung the first half momentum
over to the Huskies when she converted a pass from senior midfielder Darci Holland
(Buckfield, Maine) on a penalty corner for the game's first goal at 19:29. The
goal was Heath's team-leading 10th of the season.
Southern Maine took advantage of another penalty corner in the second half to
double its lead. Holland took the pass out from senior midfielder Deedra Boudreau
(Camden, Maine), dribbled to the right and unloaded a drive that was tipped home
by freshman Kerry Leonard (Stamford, Conn.) at 49:30 for her seventh goal of the
season. Leonard also had the game-winning goal in Friday's semifinal win over
Plymouth State University.
Less than seven minutes later, Holland found the back of the cage for her
third goal of the year, converting a pass from Heath off another penalty corner.
Keene State, undefeated in LEC regular season play (10-0) including a 3-0 win
over Southern Maine in Gorham, continued to press the attack to finally get one
past Superchi. Junior forward Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) netted the goal with
a reverse sweep of a cross from senior Justine Wentworth (Keene, N.H.) at 57:55.
Southern Maine's defense played very well in front of, and in back of,
Superchi. Freshman Jen Mason (Leicester, Vt.) and senior Amy Ouellette (Jay,
Maine) each were credited with two defensive saves. Head coach Bonny Brown-Denico
also applauded the play of freshman back Denise Minigell (Auburn, Maine), who drew
the task of marking Keene State senior forward Tanya Strong (Hatfield, Mass.), the
leading scorer in the conference, and kept her off the score sheet.
Keene State finished the game with a 22-6 advantage in shots on goal and a
12-6 in penalty corners. Freshman goalie Catlin Baril (Canton, Mass.) had two
saves for the Owls.

Southern Maine Beats Plymouth State 2-1
Huskies Advance to LEC Championship Game
KEENE, N.H. -- The third-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies scored
twice in the opening ten minutes and made the lead stand up for a 2-1 victory over
the second-seeded and three-time defending champion Plymouth State University
Panthers Friday afternoon in the second semifinal game of the 2003 Little East
Conference Field Hockey Championship tournament being played at Keene State
College.
The win was the ninth straight for the Huskies who improved to 16-5 overall,
and advances them into Saturday's championship game against the top-seeded Keene
State College Owls. It also snapped a six-game losing streak at the hands of the
Panthers. The Owls punched their ticket into the championship game with a 6-0 win
over fourth-seeded Bridgewater State College in the earlier semifinal game.
Plymouth State, which had won 10 of 11 games since the first of October,
drops to 12-6. The Panthers, which competed in the NCAA Tournament in the past
three years, are hoping for their fourth consecutive post-season berth when the
ECAC New England Tournament bids are announced on Monday. A berth in the ECAC
would give the Panthers their ninth post-season bid in the last 11 years.
Senior forward Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine) put the Huskies on top at 4:54
when she received a pass from senior Deedra Boudreau (Camden, Maine) on a penalty
corner, brought the ball back into the circle and fired a blast by PSU senior
goalie Kerry Brady (Jefferson, N.H.) for her ninth goal of the season.
Less than five minutes later, Heath controlled pass from another penalty
corner and passed across to freshman Kerry Leonard (Stamford, Conn.) who chipped a
high shot by Brady to make it 2-0. The goal was Leonard's sixth of the season.
Plymouth State, which handed the Huskies a 3-2 loss back in October, cut the
deficit in half at the 19:01 mark as sophomore Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) took a
pass from junior Annie Metz (North Chelmsford, Mass.) and beat USM senior goalie
Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.) for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Superchi and Brady would slam the door on any scoring over the final 51
minutes. Superchi was credited with six saves. Brady registered eight saves.
Southern Maine had a 10-7 edge in shots and a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.
This is the second straight year that Southern Maine has reached the
championship game. Keene State reached the title game for the first time since
the 2000 championship tournament. The winner of Saturday's championship game will
receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III championship tournament.

the 2003 NFHCA Division III North/South Senior All-Star game to be played at the
Division III Final Four on November 21-22 at Lebanon Valley College in Annville,
Penn.
"This is a tremendous individual honor for both Deedra and Jessie, and one
that is well deserved," praised head coach Bonny Brown-Denico. "They've worked
extremely hard and made considerable sacrifices to reach their current level of
play. It is very rewarding to witness their efforts being recognized.
"At the same time, this is a significant honor for our program," said Coach
Brown. "To have two student athletes selected to the senior all-star game speaks
highly of Southern Maine field hockey."
The duo has helped Southern Maine compile a 15-5 mark on the season and
advance to the semifinals of the Little East Conference Tournament. The Huskies
will face the Panthers of Plymouth State on Friday. The winner will advance to
Saturday's championship contest and face the winner of Bridgewater State College
at Keene State College. The semifinals and finals will be hosted by regular-
season champion Keene State.
One of two goalies selected to the North Squad for the Senior All-Star Game,
Superchi is a two-time regional All-American, who owns the all-time Southern Maine
record for career saves with 487. She has played every minute of every game during
the 2004 campaign, and leads the conference with 10 shut outs and a 0.94 goals
against average. She has helped the Huskies post eight consecutive wins, including
four by shutout. On five occasions this year Superchi has earned the league's
Defensive Player of the Week Award, while she was also featured in the Faces in
the Crowd section of the October 20th edition of Sports Illustrated.
Boudreau, a two-time captain at Southern Maine, is among four alternates to
be selected to the North Squad. On the year Boudreau has netted five goals and set
up three others for 13 points, to improve her career totals to 11 goals, nine
assists and 31 points. Among the league's more gifted stickhandlers, Boudreau
handles the team's penalty corner and penalty stroke responsibilities.
Although their individual honors, records and statistics are impressive, the
greatest measure of Superchi's and Boudreau's impact on the Southern Maine field
hockey program is the fact that the duo has guided the club to four consecutive
appearances in the conference tournament, a pair of trips to the ECAC Tournament,
and an overall mark of 55-33 (.625).

USM's Jessie Superchi Named LEC Defensive Player of the Week
Also Appears in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd"
GORHAM, Maine -- For the fifth time this season, University of Southern
Maine senior field hockey goalie Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.) has been named
the Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement was
made by the conference office Monday afternoon.
In addition, Superchi also was one of seven people to appear in this week's
(October 20) issue of Sports Illustrated, appearing in the "Faces in the Crowd"
column for her standout play earlier this season when she had a string of 363
scoreless minutes over five games and earned four consecutive Little East
Conference Defensive Player of the Week citations.
In three games last week, Superchi allowed only one goal and made 22 saves as
the Huskies defeated Worcester State College, 2-1, in overtime; nationally-ranked
Colby College 1-0; and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 4-0.
Against Worcester State, Superchi had seven saves and did not allow a goal
over the final 60:53 of the game. Three days later against Colby, which came into
the game ranked 19th in the weekly NFHCA Division III poll, she made 11 stops.
Superchi closed out the week with her eighth shutout of the season making four
saves against UMass Dartmouth. Since surrendering the goal to Worcester State,
she has not allowed a goal in her last 200:53 of action.
For the season, Superchi, who has played every minute (1072), has compiled a
1.04 goals against average with 113 saves and eight shutouts.
A two-time NFHCA Regional All-American, Superchi now has a 1.11 career goals
against average with 468 saves and 22 shutouts in 68 games. She is two saves shy
of the career save mark of 470 set by Andrea Guerette (1998-2001), and her 22
shutouts rank her second on the all-time list.
Southern Maine, currently riding a three-game winning streak, is 10-5 overall
and 5-2 (tied for third) in Little East Conference play. The Huskies return to
action Wednesday afternoon when they play their final regular season home game
against Framingham State College. Game time at Paula Hodgdon Field is set for

USM's Jessie Superchi Earns Little East Conference Weekly Award
GORHAM, Maine. - University of Southern Maine senior goalie Jessie Superchi
(Campton, N.H.) earned Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors
after turning in a stellar performance in the Huskies' 1-0 loss at Division II
perennial national power Bentley College on Sunday.
Superchi turned aside 19-of-20 shots, including a diving save on a penalty
stroke that was labeled for the far corner. The only shot to elude her was on a
penalty corner situation, in which an opponent slipped a pass between her legs to
a teammate, who rifled a low shot into the far corner.
"Any time you play a Division II opponent it's going to be an extremely
difficult contest," said Head Coach Bonny Brown-Denico. "At the same time, it is
also an opportunity, and Jessie took advantage of the situation to showcase her
talents as one of the New England region's premier goalies."
The game marked the season opener for Southern Maine, which will look to
level its record on Thursday when it entertains Gordon. The Huskies, who were
ranked second in the LEC pre-season coaches' poll behind three-time defending
league champion Plymouth State, compiled an overall mark of 15-8 a year. In
conference play, Southern Maine finished third with a 7-3 regular-season mark,
before advancing to the tournament finals, where it bowed to Plymouth State.
"Our goal every year is to capture the conference tournament and advance to
the NCAA Tournament," said Brown-Denico. "We came very close to realizing that
goal last year, which has made us more determined to take that final step this
year. As a senior, Jessie wants to conclude her career with her finest season to
date, and her performance against Bentley set a very encouraging tone for the
year."
A second team regional All-American as a sophomore in 2001, Superchi started
all 23 games a year ago, and blanked seven foes, turned aside 164 shots, and
posted a 1.08 goals against average. She entered the 2003 season with career
totals of 14 shutouts, 355 saves, and a 1.13 goals against average.

Southern Maine Announces Field Hockey Captains
GORHAM, Maine - Senior forward Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine), senior
midfielder Deedra Boudreau (Camden, Maine) and senior sweeper Amy Ouellette (Jay,
ME) will serve a second year as captains of the University of Southern Maine
Huskies' field hockey team.
"I am extremely excited to have Amy, Deedra and Renee returning as captains,"
said sixth-year head coach Bonny Brown-Denico. "A trio of four-year starters, they
are extremely talented, dedicated and committed individuals, who emerged as
leaders a year ago. They helped lead us to within a game of the NCAA Tournament
last year, I am confident they will enable us to take the next step forward this
year."
Southern Maine finished third in the 2002 regular-season standings with a 7-3
slate and advanced to the finals of the Little East Conference Tournament, where
it suffered a 2-1 loss to Plymouth State University. The Huskies received a bid to
the ECAC Tournament, and advanced to the semi-finals, before concluding the year
with a 15-8 mark.
Heath, a two-sport (softball) standout and captain at Southern Maine, is a
three-time All-LEC selection, who has scored 24 goals and added 15 assists for 63
points in 66 career games. She netted eight goals and added six assists for a
team-co-leading 22 points a year ago.
"Renee is a gifted offensive talent, who is equally adept at creating or
finishing the play," said Brown-Denico. "In the past she has concentrated her
energies on creating opportunities for her teammates, but this year we need her to
assume greater responsibility and emerge as the focal point of our offense."
While Heath will lead the team's offensive efforts, Ouellette will again
oversee the team's defensive alignment. A year ago, the Huskies blanked eight foes
and held seven others to one goal. Complicating matters this year will be the
departure of three starting backs.
"Amy is a tenacious, hard worker, who leads by example," said Brown-Denico.
"She will be asked to help three teammates adjust to the starting lineup. Although
that is never an easy assignment, with her experience and knowledge of our system,
I am confident that this adjustment will be a smooth one."
At center midfield Boudreau posses the diversity of skills necessary to make
the transition from defense to offense. She netted two goals and added five
assists for nine points a year ago, while her unrivaled speed enables her to make
a rapid return to the defensive side of the field.
"With Deedra it's almost like having a coach on the field," said Brown-
Denico. "She plays an active role on offense, defense and factors in the majority
of our free hits. Her outstanding level of fitness enables her to cover the whole
field throughout the course of a game, and to set an example that our freshman
will try to emulate."
This trio will guide the Huskies through a 19-game schedule that includes a
full complement of 10 Little East Conference games. Southern Maine commences the
season on Sunday, September 7, when it travels to Bentley (4:00). The remainder of
the month is as follows: Sept. 11, Gordon (4:00); Sept. 13, Clark (2:00); Sept.
16, at New England (4:00); Sept. 18, Bates (4:00); Sept. 20, at Westfield State
(3:00); Sept. 23, Salem State (3:30); Sept. 25, UMaine Farmington (3:30); and
Sept. 27, at Eastern Connecticut (1:00).
In October, the Huskies will play: Oct. 1, at Plymouth State (4:00); Oct. 4,
Worcester State (2:00); Oct. 7, at Bowdoin (4:00); Oct. 11, Keene State (2:00);
Oct. 15, Colby (4:00); Oct. 18, UMass Dartmouth (2:00); Oct. 22, Framingham State
(3:30); Oct. 25, at Fitchburg State (12:00); and Oct. 28, at St. Joseph's (3:00).
The Huskies' lone November contest will be at Bridgewater State (2:00) on the
