GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine senior field hockey
standout Sasha Ilkovich (Wellfleet, Mass.) added another honor to an already

Coaches Association.
Also receiving recognition are junior midfielder-forward Renee Heath
(Brunswick, Maine) and sophomore goalie Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.), who
were named to the second team.
"I'm very happy for the three of them," said an elated Bonny Brown-Denico,

USM. "These are tremendous awards and they are well deserved. Our team enjoyed a
successful season, and one of the reasons for our success was the play of these
three."

following her sophomore campaign, led the club in scoring with 12 goals,
including five game winners, and two assists for 26 points. During her two year
career with the Huskies, she registered 16 goals and 11 assists for 43 points.

honors.

started 18 of the 19 games in which she saw action, and turned aside 103 of the
121 shots she faced for a 0.94 goals against average. She shutout six opponents,
including four in a row during one mid-season stretch. Heath received first
team All-LEC recognition while Superchi was named to the All-LEC second team.
With the addition of Ilkovich, Heath and Superchi, 17 student-athletes
have earned Regional All-American honors on 22 occasions during the 35-year
history of varsity field hockey at USM.
Southern Maine concluded the year by advancing to the second round of the
ECAC Tournament and registering an overall mark of 13-9. In Little East

Huskies Post a 2-0 Win Over Owls in Quarterfinals
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior forward Laura Jurkowski (East Longmeadow, Mass)

range with 20 minutes to play. Sophomore goalie Jessie Superchi flashed out her
right pad to kick the ball away and preserve the lead.
With time running out, Westfield State pressed forward, and Southern Maine
capitalized on a quick counter attack to take a 2-0 advantage. Carrying the ball
just over midfield, junior midfielder Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine) sent a long
clearing pass forward, which junior forward Sarah Dolley (Oakland, Maine)

Ilkovich Hat Trick Leads Huskies Past Monks, 6-0
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior forward Sasha Ilkovich (Wellfleet, Mass.) scored
three goals and had one assist to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies
to a 6-0 victory over the St. Joseph's College Monks in college field hockey
action Wednesday afternoon at Paula Hodgdon Field. The game was the season
opener for both squads.
Ilkovich is the first USM player to record three goals in a game since Alison
Drury turned the trick against St. Michael's in 1998, and the 11th different
player in the history of the program to score three or more goals in a game.
The Huskies broke open a scoreless game with three goals in a span of
seven minutes in the first half. Senior forward Liza Barker (Greene, Maine) put
USM on the board with what proved to be the game winner eight minutes into the
contest. Ilkovich set up freshman midfielder Sarah MacKay (Sanford, Maine) five
minutes later to make it 2-0. Ilkovich's first goal of the game, tapping home a
pass from sophomore forward Shelby Robinson (York, Maine), came with 20 minutes
left in the half.
Another three-goal explosion within a four-minute span midway through the
second half turned the game into a romp. Sophomore forward Deedra Beveridge
(Camden, Maine) ignited the outburst with 16:28 left, set up by MacKay. Ilkovich
scored the final two goals two minutes apart, both assisted by junior forward
Renee Heath (Brunswick, Maine).
Sophomore goalie Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.) posted the shutout for
the Huskies making one save. Senior Laura Lombardi (Westport, Mass.) turned
aside 14 shots for St. Joseph's. The Huskies outshot the Monks, 25-1, and had a
13-0 edge in penalty corners.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday when they travel to Waltham,
Mass., to play Bentley College, last year's Division II national runner-ups.
