USM's Stacy LeBlanc Named Academic All-District One
GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine senior women's soccer
player Stacy LeBlanc (Standish, Maine/Lake Region HS) has been named to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District One women's soccer second team as selected by
the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
LeBlanc, a defender, is the second member of the USM women's soccer team to
be so honored. She is the first USM student-athlete to be honored with Academic
All-District One honors since Darryl Whitney (men's track/cross country), Amy
Swanberg (women's track/cross country) and Sarah McLean (softball) were honored
in 2003.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative grade
point average (gpa) of 3.20 or better. LeBlanc has a 3.81 gpa and is majoring
in business administration. Those student-athletes named to the All-District
first team are eligible for Academic All-America(r) honors.
A first team All-Little East Conference pick in 2004, LeBlanc has helped
the Huskies compile an 11-6-1 overall record this season, including a 1-0
victory over Rhode Island College in the first round of the LEC playoffs. The
Huskies take on top seeded Eastern Connecticut State University in a semifinal
match Friday morning (11:00 a.m.) at Eastern Connecticut.
A standout defensive player and team co-captain, LeBlanc has started all 18
games to date. She has been instrumental in the Huskies surrendering only 20
goals and posting six shutouts this season.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects
Academic All-America(r) teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball,
men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball,
softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross
country, men's at-large and women's at-large. A first team, second team and
third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College
(Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. Football consists of just first and
second teams.
