USM Names Susan Frost Women's Lacrosse Head Coach
GORHAM, Maine -- Susan Frost, formerly the women's lacrosse head coach at
Binghamton (N.Y.) University, has accepted the position as head coach for women's
lacrosse at the University of Southern Maine. Al Bean, Director of Athletics at
USM, made the announcement of Frost's appointment.
The fourth head coach of the USM women's lacrosse program, Frost will assume
her duties at USM on August 15. She replaces Meredith Bickford who left the
position after the 2005 season to pursue other professional opportunities.
Frost, who guided the Binghamton program during its first three varsity
seasons, will also oversee USM's Gorham-campus Learning Center, an academic
support initiative for students that is located in the Costello Sports Complex.
"I'm really excited about taking over the women's lacrosse program (at USM)"
commented Frost. "I believe there is a lot of potential for the program to grow
and build upon the foundation in place."
"Sue Frost will be a great addition to our staff. She brings a variety of
skills and experiences to our department including a great passion for the sport
of lacrosse. She brings intensity to the playing field but also understands the
balance needed for student-athletes to grow and be successful in school and in
life. I fully expect Sue to bring the women's lacrosse program to the next level
and to continue to build and grow our academic support initiatives," said Bean.
A 1997 graduate of Marist College (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with a degree in
English and a minor on psychology, Frost played for the Red Foxes first varsity
team in 1997 participating in all 13 games and served as team captain. She began
her coaching career as an assistant lacrosse coach in the Farmingdale, N.Y.,
School District. After spending one season in that capacity, she moved to Molloy
College (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) as head coach of the women's lacrosse club team.
Prior to taking the Binghamton position in 2002, Frost spent one season as the
women's lacrosse coach at Wesley College in Dover, Del. She guided the Wolverines
to a 6-5 overall record in her one season there.
At Binghamton, Frost took over a program that was transitioning from club team
to an NCAA Division I program in the America East Conference. In her three
seasons as the head coach, she compiled a 5-33 overall record, including a 4-10
mark in the 2004 season.
Frost spent the past year at Old Westbury College (Old Westbury, N.Y.) as the
Sports Information Director and Director of NCAA Compliance.
Southern Maine finished the 2005 season 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the Little East
Conference. The Huskies were eliminated from the LEC tournament in the first
round.
