ECAC Division III Championship
at Stanley Park, Westfield, Mass.
Anderson Wins ECAC Championship
Leads Huskies to Third Place Finish
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- University of Southern Maine junior Eleanore Anderson (Houlton,
Maine) continued her dominance of the region's cross country races by winning the ECAC Division
III Women's Cross Country Championship run at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass., Saturday
morning. Anderson's performance helped the Huskies to a third place finish in the team results.
Anderson won her third race of the season touring the 3.1-mile circuit, site of the 1996 NCAA
Regional Championship, in a time of 18:36, four seconds better than senior Katy Masselam of
Middlebury College. Anderson had previously won the Colby Relays in September and last week's
New England Alliance Championship. She has finished in the top four in six of seven races this fall.
Junior Penny Osborne (Farmington, Maine) had a strong outing for the Huskies placing fourth
with a time of 18:45.
Middlebury won the team title placing four runners in the top ten and scoring 43 points.
Plattsburgh State was second with 102 points, followed by Southern Maine with 128 points.

New England Alliance Championship/Little East Conference Championship
at North Dartmouth, Mass.
Huskies Sweep New England Alliance and Little East Crowns
Anderson Wins Individual Title, Huskies Take First Four Spots
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's cross
country team swept the first four places on the way to winning the New England Alliance Cross
Country Championship and the Little East Conference title at the University of Massachusetts
Dartmouth Saturday morning.
The meet, which was scored three ways, combined the schools of the Little East Conference
and the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference. USM easily outdistance second place
finisher Keene State College in both Alliance and Little East scoring.
Junior Eleanore Anderson (Houlton, Maine) continued her impressive season winning the
individual title placing first with a time of 18:33. Junior Penny Osborne (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue
HS) finished second in 18:48, senior Julie Skillings (Falmouth, Maine/South Portland HS) placed
third with a time of 19:25, and freshman Julie Lagin-Nasse (Anson, Maine/Madison HS) came in
fourth with a 19:27 clocking. Freshman Deri-Ann White (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy)
rounded out USM's top five crossing the line in ninth place overall in 19:39.
Other USM runners included freshman Hollie Harnish (Bangor, Maine) in 15th position
(19:56), freshman Alyssa Bergeron (Methuen, Mass.) in 17th place (20:13), freshman Jen Wilson
(Skowhegan, Maine) in 22nd place (20:39), freshman Michelle Cruver (Biddeford, Maine/Wells HS)
in 27th place (21:03), junior Jen Cole (Eliot, Maine/Marshwood HS) in 48th position (22:27),
freshman Kathy DeGrandpre (Freeport, Maine) in 61st place (23:33), freshman Jen Snyder
(Auburn, Mass.) in 62nd place (23:36) and sophomore Amy Charland (Old Orchard Beach, Maine)
in 76th place (25:22).

New England Championship

Anderson Earns All-New England Honors
GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine junior Eleanore Anderson (Houlton,
Maine) added to her impressive list of cross country racing accomplishments by finishing 21st at the
23rd Annual Women's New England Cross Country Championship to earn All-New England
honors.
Anderson toured the 5,000 meter Franklin Park course in 18:02 to be the first non-Division
One runner across the line. Her time was 33 seconds faster than her time at the October 4 National
Preview meet run over the same course. Anderson was the only non-Division One competitor to earn All-New England honors.
Five of the Huskies' seven runners improved upon their times from the National Preview
meet. Junior Penny Osborne (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue HS) chopped 35 seconds off her
previous time to place 84th in 19:00. Freshman Julie Lagin-Nasse (Anson, Maine/Madison HS)
was 15 seconds faster with a 19:26 time to finish 111th. Freshman Hollie Harnish (Bangor,
Maine) improved by 17 seconds to finish in 20:14, good for 173rd place.
Overall, the Huskies placed 20th among the 37 teams competing.

HUSKIES WIN FIRST STATE TITLE SINCE 1988
SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Paced by junior captain Eleanore Anderson's (Houlton,
Maine) second place finish, the University of Southern Maine Huskies won its first State of Maine
Women's Cross Country Championship since 1988 Saturday afternoon at the Beech Ridge X-C Ski
Touring Center.
The Huskies placed five runners among the first 17 finishers to win the title with 43 points.
Bates, led by individual winner Adelia Myrick (Kodiak, Alaska), finished second with 52 points.
Colby College was third and Bowdoin College fourth.
Anderson toured the 5,000 meter course in 19:11, seven seconds behind Myrick. Junior
Penny Osborne (Farmington, Maine) finished fifth with a time of 19:50 followed six seconds later
by freshman Julie Lagin-Nasse (Anson, Maine) in sixth place. The first seven finishers earn All-
State honors.
Other scoring runners for the Huskies were senior Julie Skillings (Falmouth, Maine) in
13th place with a time of 20:24 and freshman Deri Ann White (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) in 17th
place with a time of 20:40.
The only previous time the Huskies won the title in the 20-year history of the event was 1988
when they tied the University of Maine for team honors.

Huskies Finish Strong Sixth at National Preview Meet
BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's cross country team
had an excellent showing Saturday afternoon finishing sixth among 17 teams in the National
Championship Preview Invitational at Franklin Park.
Junior captain Eleanore Anderson (Houlton, Maine) led the Huskies impressive performance
placing fourth with a time of 18:35 over the same 5,000-meter course that will be used for the NCAA
Division Three National Championship in November.
