Cutler Named USM Women’s Tennis Captain
GORHAM, Maine – Junior Chelsea Cutler (Dayville, Conn./Killingly) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies women’s tennis team has been named captain for the 2008 season. Second year head coach Hans Römer made the announcement as the Huskies prepare for their season-opening match against the Plymouth State University Panthers on Saturday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m. The lone returning student-athlete on the Southern Maine roster, Cutler played both fourth and fifth singles for the Huskies in 2007 in her first season. Cutler also saw limited action at third doubles throughout the season. “As the one and only returning player from the 2007 team, Chelsea is clearly the veteran,” commented Römer. “Her enthusiasm, dedication and leadership skills will make her an undoubtedly successful captain.” Following its season-opening match with Plymouth State, Southern Maine travels to Pine Manor College on Sept. 10 (4:00) before hosting Little East Conference opponent Bridgewater State in its home opener on Sept. 13 (1:00). The Huskies travel to Salem State on Sept. 16 (3:30 p.m.) for a conference tilt, before hosting LEC rival Rhode Island College on Sept. 20 (1:00 p.m.) prior to a three-match road swing.
