Southern Maine Places Two on All-LEC Team
GORHAM, Maine -- Two members of the University of Southern Maine women's
soccer team have been named to the All-Little East Conference second team that
was announced Tuesday following voting by the conference's head coaches.
Named to the All-LEC second team were senior midfielder Samantha Rennie
(Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) and junior goalkeeper Mindy Morneault (Winterville,
Maine/Fort Kent). They are the first USM players to receive All-LEC recognition
since 2005. It is the first time that either player has been named to the All-
Conference team.
"I'm very excited for both players," commented second-year head coach Lisa
Petruccelli. "(Rennie) was a three-year starter in the black where it's
difficult to gain recognition. She moved to the midfield this season and had
some offensive success that helped this team tremendously.
"(Morneault) had to sit out much of last season, and a few matches this
season, due to injury. It was exciting to see her come back to perform at the
level that made her the conference Rookie of the Year (in 2005)."
Rennie, a three-year starter on the back line who moved forward to a
central midfield position this season, was the Huskies second leading scorer
with a team-leading eight goals, including three game-winning goals, and one
assist for 17 points. She had the game-winning goal in the Huskies' wins over
the University of Massachusetts Boston, Framingham State College, and Rhode
Island College. Rennie was recognized during the season as the LEC Offensive
Player of the Week (September 17-23) after assisting on the game-winning goal
against the University of Maine Farmington and tallying three goals against
UMass Boston.
Morneault, the 2005 LEC Rookie of the Year, compiled a 2.27 goals against
average, made 87 saves and had a 4-8-0 record with three shutouts in 13
appearances. She posted shutout victories over Framingham State, the University
of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Rhode Island College. The win over Rhode Island
College clinched a berth in the LEC postseason tournament for the Huskies.
The Huskies finished the 2007 season with a 7-11-0 overall record and a
3-4-0 mark (tied for fifth place) in the conference.

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- Sarah Swann (Oxford, Conn.) and Nicole Gaudette
(Colchester, Conn.) scored goals as the Eastern Connecticut State University
women's soccer team kept pace in the Little East Conference with a 2-0 victory
over the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon at Thomas Nevers Field.
The top three teams in the conference all won Saturday and remain separated
by three points with two regular-season matches remaining. Rhode Island
College's 3-2 overtime home win over Plymouth State University moves the
Anchorwomen into a two-way tie for third place with Keene State, three points
ahead of Southern Maine (6-7-0, 2-3-0 little east).
The shutout is the fifth straight for Eastern Connecticut (8-4-1, 4-1-0

half when she converted a penalty kick. Swann drew the call when she was
tripped up on a run through the box. It was the team-leading sixth goal of the
year for Gaudette, who came off the bench to take six shots (five on goal) in 53
minutes. She laced her penalty-kick goal past the dive of USM junior goalkeeper
Mindy Morneault (Winterville, Maine/Fort Kent) and inside the left post.
Eastern outshot Southern Maine by a 23-4 margin. The Huskies took their
first shot 40 seconds into the second half - their only shot on goal -- and
collected three of their shots in a span of three minutes. The visitors' best
chance to score came with four minutes left, but senior Natasha Levandowski
(Portland, Maine/Scarborough) struck a 20-yarder from the top of the box just
over the crossbar.
Morneault made two consecutive fabulous saves late in the first half to
keep the match a one-goal contest. From the right post, she dove to her right
to knock down a bid by Sarah Revoir (Berlin, Conn.), then scrambled to bat down
the rebound shot by Melissa Roy (Wallingford, Conn.) at the left post.

Field.
The win was the third in the last four matches for the Huskies, and evens

Junior forward Whitney Huse (Falmouth, Maine) gave the home side an
insurance marker in the 73rd minute when she tapped home the rebound of shot off
the left post taken by junior midfielder Andrea Blanchette (Hodgdon, Maine).
Blanchette's shot eluded UMF sophomore keeper Ashley Holshouser (Berwick,

Amber Murphy's (Manchester, N.H.) shot slid just wide of the left post.

GORHAM, Maine -- Freshman midfielder Llia Dunham-Conway (Standish,
Maine/Bonny Eagle) headed in a rebound with less than three minutes to play in
regulation time to give the University of Southern Maine Huskies a 2-1 victory
over the University of New England Nor'easters in a non-conference women's

The win was the second straight for the Huskies and leveled their overall
record at 2-2-0. The Nor'easters slipped to 1-2-0.
With time winding down, the Huskies were awarded a free kick just outside

Maine/Bonny Eagle) lofted a high shot on goal that UNE sophomore goalkeeper

over the crossbar, but the ball hit the bar and rebounded to Dunham-Conway who
calmly headed it into the net for her first collegiate goal. The goal came with
2:43 remaining in regulation.
The Nor'easters had tied the match 10 minutes earlier when senior Jill
Gustafson (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) lofted a 25-yard shot over USM
junior keeper Alison Bradley (Auckland, New Zealand) into the top of the net.
Southern Maine had the edge in play in the first half and came away with
the only goal. Senior Samantha Rennie (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) took a pass from
junior Caitlin Brown (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills), turned and fired a 15-yard
shot at goal. Gustafson got a hand on the shot, but was unable to control the
rebound which trickled over the goal line in the 29th minute.

scoring opportunities, but USM starting goalie Mindy Morneault (Winterville,
Maine/Fort Kent) was able to make the stops.
Morneault played into the 51st minute before leaving the match with an
injury. She had two saves. Bradley came on and was credited with one save.
