the visitors who got on the board first with a power-play goal by sophomore Liz

Southern Maine Edges New England College 2-1
HENNIKER, N.H. -- Freshman Jana Sacco (Niagara Falls, Ontario) scored
with 6:29 left in regulation time to snap a 1-1 tie and give the University of
Southern Maine a 2-1 win over New England College in an Eastern College Athletic
Conference (ECAC) Women’s East game Friday afternoon.
The win halted the Huskies’ two-game losing skid and improved their record
to 3-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play. It is the first time in the seven-
year history of the series (eight games) that the Huskies have won at NEC. The
Pilgrims slide to 2-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the league.
Sacco converted a feed from freshman Kylie Blasen (Okemos, Mich.) to beat
NEC rookie goalie Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) for her second goal of the
season.
Southern Maine had to survive some anguish moments in the final minute.
After NEC pulled White with a minute to play in favor of the extra attacker, USM
was whistled for two penalties in the final 40 seconds giving the hosts a
manpower advantage, including a 6x4 advantage for the last 12 seconds.
The Huskies grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first period as freshman Katie
Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) tallied an unassisted goal at 2:41. The goal was her
fourth of the season. USM had a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal in the opening
20 minutes, but Paradis’ shot was the only one to elude White.
The lead lasted until the 15:30 mark of the second period when freshman
Samantha Phillips (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tied the score with her second goal of the
campaign. Senior Sarah Tracey (Aurora, Ontario) and junior Jana Schneider
(Elbridge, N.Y.) picked up the assists.

Third-year head coach John Lauziere has a squad that features 20 first or

defense, giving us some strength and speed along the blue line, and some
leadership in the locker room. I look for the two of them to carry us a long
way this season."
After this weekend's opener with St. Michael's, the Huskies will play six
more games in the month of November. Next weekend, the Huskies will travel to
