Ben Loss Named USM Golf Team Captain
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Ben Loss (Wilmette, Ill./Westminster) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' golf team has been named captain for the 2008 season. It is the second consecutive season that Loss will serve as the Huskies' team leader after serving as a co-captain during the 2007 season. Head Coach Reggie Grant made the announcement. Loss averaged a career-best 81.8 strokes in 15 rounds of competition in 2007, recording a season and career low of 75 to finish third overall at the University of New England Invitational played at the Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, Maine. In his career, Loss has averaged 83.2 strokes per round and has improved his average by nearly four strokes since his first season with the Huskies. Loss is also a member of the USM men's ice hockey team. "Ben has continued to be one of the most dedicated players on the team," noted Grant. "His work ethic, team concept and leadership will be strong assets to this year's team. Entering his fourth season, his game has continued to improve throughout his career." Southern Maine starts the 2008 fall campaign this Friday at the University of New England Invitational at the Cape Arundel Golf Course (Kennebunkport, Maine).
