Southern Maine Fifth at GNAC-Alliance Championship
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) shot
an 83 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a fifth place finish
at the first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference-Alliance Men's Golf
Championship played Friday afternoon at Triggs Memorial Golf Course. The
Alliance Championship is made up from teams from the Great Northeast Athletic
Conference (GNAC) and the Little East Conference (LEC).
Johnson & Wales University captured the team title with a score of 310.
Rhode Island College placed second with a team score of 317, followed by the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 322, St. Joseph's College (Me) at 331,
the University of Southern Maine at 359 and Suffolk University at 362.
Johnson and Wales sophomore Dustin Bride (Manchester, Conn.) earned the
medalist honors with a score of 75, one stroke ahead of St. Joseph's junior
Chris Deroche (Portland, Maine). Rhode Island College freshman Barrett Kern
(Pawtucket, R.I.) placed third with a score of 77. RIC junior Derrick Garforth
(Tiverton, R.I.), along with the Johnson and Wales duo of senior Kyle Morrell
(New Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Chad Raymond (Nashua, N.H.) tied for fourth
at 78.
Other USM players were juniorsGreg Mitchel (Durham, Maine/Brunswick) and
Justin Marchant (Westbrook, Maine), and sophomores Ben Loss (Wilmette,
Illinois/Westminster) and David Roberge (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little).
This is the lone event of the spring season for the Huskies golf team.

Belleville Top USM Finisher at NEIGA Championship
GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) carded
a five-over par 77 Tuesday to finish as the top University of Southern Maine
golfer at the 2006 New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship played Monday
and Tuesday at the 36-hole Captains Golf course in Brewster, Mass.
Combined with his opening round 81, Belleville finished in a tie for 56th
place among the 214 competitors with a score of 158 (+14).
Senior Mark Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI/Hoosac School) was the next USM
finisher at 172 after carding 84 on Monday and 88 on Tuesday. Senior captain
Joe Hamilton (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) finished at 175 (90-85) followed by
sophomore Ben Loss (Wilmette, Illinois/Westminster) at 176 (94-82) and junior
Greg Mitchell (Durham, Maine/Brunswick) at 179 (95-84).
Ben Spitz of the University of Rhode Island was the medalist with a score
of one-under par 143 (69-74), one shot better than Patrick Fillian of Sacred
Heart University (73-71 144).
The University of Rhode Island, led by Spitz, took the team title with an
aggregate two-day score of 588 (+12), 15 shots better than Sacred Heart. Bryant
University was the top Division Two team finishing in 12th place overall at 630,
and Trinity College took first in Division III with its sixth place overall
finish at 620.
Southern Maine end up in a tie for 36th place (677, +101) among the 43
teams competing. The NEIGA event is the final event of the fall season for the
Huskies.

Huskies Finish Fifth at Husson Invitational
ORONO, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies golf team closed
out its 2006 fall regular season schedule with a fifth place finish at the
Husson College Invitational played Sunday and Monday at the Penobscot Valley CC
in Orono, Maine.
The Huskies, tied for second after the first round, finished with an
aggregate score of 650, eight shots behind Bowdoin College. The host Husson
College Eagles won the event with an impressive two-day score of 591. Tufts
University took second place at 629, and St. Joseph's College finished third at
639.
Junior Lance Libby (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) and Senior Jason Harvey
(Bucksport, Maine) of Husson tied for low medalist with a one-over par 145
total. Libby won the event on the first playoff hole. Junior Adam Duplisea
(Hermon, Maine) and freshman Chris Coffin (Presque Isle, Maine) took the next
two positions, giving the Eagles a sweep of the top four sports.
Junior Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) and sophomore Ben Loss
(Wilmette, Illinois/Westminster) were the top USM finishers with two-day totals
of 161. Senior Mark Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI/Hoosac School) finished with
a 163, senior Joe Hamilton (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) came in at 166, and junior
Greg Mitchell (Durham, Maine/Brunswick) finished at 170.
Southern Maine will participate in the NEIGA Championship at the Captains
GC in Brewster, Mass., on October 23-24.

Huskies Tie for Second in USM Scramble
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- The St. Joseph's College Monks posted an
impressive 16-under par 54 to win the USM Scramble played Friday at the Sable
Oaks GC in South Portland, Maine.
The Monks five-man team, consisting of Jeff Peterson (Naples, Maine), Chris
Deroche (Portland, Maine), Francois Renaud (East Middlebury, Vt.), Andy Leconte
(York, Maine) and John Whiteman (Old Orchard Beach, Maine), posted the lowest
score in the eight-year history of the event, beating the previous low mark by
two shots.
The University of Southern Maine team of senior captain Joe Hamilton (Old
Orchard Beach, Maine), Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass.), Greg Mitchell (Durham,
Maine/Brunswick), Mark Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI/Hoosac School) and Ben Loss
(Wilmette, Illinois/Westminster) tied with the University of New England for
second place with scores of 11-under par 59, edging out the University of Maine
at Farmington by a stroke. UMF was fourth with a 10-under par 60.
Southern Maine will play its final regular season event on Sunday and
Monday (October 8-9) when it plays in the Husson College Invitational at the
Penobscot Valley CC in Orono, Maine. USM will close out the 2006 fall season
October 23-24 playing in the NEIGA Championships.

Huskies Second at USM Fall Classic
GORHAM, Maine -- Paced by junior Greg Mitchell (Durham, Maine/Brunswick
HS), the University of Southern Maine Huskies golf team finished second among
the eight teams competing in the USM Fall Classic at Sable Oaks GC in South
Portland, Maine.
Mitchell carded back-to-back rounds of 77 for a two-day total of 154 to
lead the Huskies. Junior Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) and
sophomore Ben Loss (Wilmette, Illinois/Westminster) each finished with two-day
totals of 157. Seniors Mark Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI/Hoosac School) and
Joe Hamilton (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) finished with 163 and 166, respectively.
Husson College took the team title with an impressive two-day team total of
603 (298-305). Southern Maine, playing its best tournament of the fall season,
had a two-day score of 630 (316-314). Endicott College edged St. Joseph's
College, 639-642, for the third spot.
Junior Lance Libby (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) led the Eagles firing a
6-over par 146 (72-74) to capture individual honors. Freshman Chris Coffin
(Presque Isle, Maine) of Husson and sophomore Brandon Poulin (Gorham, Maine) of
the University of Maine at Farmington shared second place at 151. Senior Jason
Harvey (Bucksport, Maine) of Husson came in fourth one shot further back.
Highlighting Sunday's first round was a hole-in-one by Husson junior Brian
Johnson (Bangor, Maine). Johnson aced the par-3, 160-yard 11th hole.
Southern Maine returns to Sable Oaks on Friday (October 6) to host the USM
Scramble. The Huskies will play their final regular season event Sunday and
Monday(October 8-9) when they travel to Penobscot Valley CC in Orono, Maine, to
participate in the Husson College Invitational.

Huskies Tie for Third at Queenan Memorial Tournament
RAYMOND, Maine -- Junior Greg Mitchell (Durham, Maine/Brunswick HS)
posted an 85 in blustery conditions Tuesday to lead the University of Southern
Maine Huskies to a tie for third place among the eight teams competing at the
John Queenan Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by St. Joseph's College at the Pt.
Sebago GC in Raymond.
Following Mitchell among the USM players were senior captain Joe Hamilton
(Old Orchard Beach, Maine) at 86 and senior Mark Carragher (Charlottetown,
PEI/Hoosac School) and sophomore Ben Loss (Wilmette, Illinois/Westminster) at
88.
Only six players in the field of 38 competitors broke 80, led by Chris
Coffin of Husson College who posted the low round of the day with a 71. He
finished five strokes ahead of his nearest challenger. Teammates Bryan Johnson,
Lance Libby and Adam Duplisea were next on the leader board shooting 76, 77, and
78, respectively.
Husson took the team trophy with a remarkable 302 score. St. Joseph's was
second at 333, with Southern Maine and the University of New England tied for
third at 347.
The Huskies return to the links for the two-day USM Fall Classic at Sable
Oaks GC on Sunday (October 1) and Monday.

Huskies Finish Second at UMF Invitational
GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) carded
a 77 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies golf team to a second
place finish among the eight schools competing at the University of Maine at
Farmington Invitational played Sunday at the Belgrade Lakes GC in Belgrade,
Maine.
Husson College captured the team title with a four-man aggregate score of
312. Southern Maine was 11 shots back at 323. St. Joseph's College finished
third with a score of 327, and UMaine Farmington took the fourth sport with 339.
Belleville finished in a tie for third place with George Surrette of Maine
Maritime Academy. Lance Libby of Husson fired the low round of the day carding
a one-over par 72. Teammate Adam Duplisea was second with a 74.
USM senior captain Joe Hamilton (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) finished in a
tie for fifth place with Brandon Poulin of UMF as each finished with a 78.
Juniors Justin Marchant (Westbrook, Maine) and Greg Mitchell (Durham,
Maine/Brunswick) came in with 83 and 85, respectively, for the Huskies.
Southern Maine returns to the links this Saturday at the Sid Farr
Invitational hosted by Colby College at the Waterville (Maine) CC.

Huskies Take Third at Terrier Invitational
GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) carded
an 80 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a third place finish
among the eight teams competing at the 2006 Terrier Invitational hosted by
Thomas College at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine, on Tuesday.
The Huskies grouped four players within a range of 80-84 for an aggregate
score of 327, good for third place behind Husson College at 306 and Bowdoin
College at 314.
Belleville, who tied for ninth place, was one stroke ahead of senior Mark
Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI/Hoosac School) who finished in a three-way tie for
11th place at 81. Sophomore Ben Loss (Wilmette, Illinois/Westminster) was
another shot back at 82, and senior captain Joe Hamilton (Old Orchard Beach,
Maine) had an 84.
Lance Libby of Husson took the individual honors with a one-over par 72,
edging out Brandon Malloy of Bowdoin by one shot. Adam Duplisea of Husson and
Jeff Peterson of St. Joseph's College tied for third after each shot 77.
Southern Maine will hit the links on Friday and Saturday for the State of
Maine Intercollegiate Golf Championship being played at Natanis GC in
Vassalboro, Maine.

Huskies Finish 13th at Bowdoin Invitational
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Dave Christie of Hamilton College grabbed individual
medalist honors in leading the Continentals' golf squad to the 2006 Bowdoin
Invitational championship. The two-day event was played Saturday and Sunday at
the Brunswick GC.
Hamilton totalled a team score of 604 to edge Husson College (609) and
Saint Anselm College (609) for the team title. Middlebury College (613) and
Tufts University (631) rounded out the top five. Southern Maine (674) came home
in 13th place in the 15-team field.
Christie claimed medalist honors in a one-hole playoff over Saint Anselm's
Sean Fitzpatrick. Both players finished at 144 (even par) after 36 holes.
Southern Maine will play on Tuesday (September 12) in the Terrier
Invitational hosted by Thomas College at the Samoset CC in Rockport, Maine.

Huskies Second at Season Opening Event
SACO, Maine -- Senior captain Joe Hamilton (Old Orchard Beach, Maine)
carded a 78 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a second place
finish among the four teams competing in the season-opening University of New
England Golf Invitational played Tuesday at the Biddeford-Saco CC.
Hamilton finished tied for fourth overall behind a trio of golfers from St.
Joseph's College. Chris Deroche of St. Joe's was the low medalist after firing
a two-over par 73. Deroche was followed by teammates John Whiteman and Francois
Renaud who finished with 75 and 77, respectively.
For the Huskies, junior Adam Belleville (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) came in
tied for sixth place with an 80. He was followed by sophomore Ben Loss
(Wilmette, Illinois) who came in with an 81, junior Justin Marchant (Westbrook,
Maine) who shot 86, and junior Dana Robinson (Middlebury, Vt.) at 89.
St. Joseph's won the team title with a score of 310, followed by Southern
Maine at 325, the host UNE squad at 336 and Gordon College at 377.
Southern Maine will participate in the Bowdoin College Invitational this
Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 9-10) at the Brunswick (Maine) GC.
