Huskies Edge Monks in Playoff to Capture Terrier Invitational
GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies edged the St.
Josephís College Monks in a one-hole playoff to capture the Terrier Invitational
tournament played Thursday at the Samoset CC course in Rockport, Maine.
The Huskies and Monks finished the tournament with team scores of 302, one
stroke in front of Husson College. On the first playoff hole, the Huskies' five
players combined scores equaled even par while the Monks' five players totaled
two over par.
Leading the Huskies was junior Jeff Lavoie (Lewiston, Maine) who fired a
74 over the par 70 layout. Senior Pat Otto (Furlong, Penn.) carded a 75 while
classmate Chad Lauze (Gorham, N.H.) had a 76. Fifth-year senior Bill Slaiding
(Seekonk, Mass.) added a 77. Sophomore Ashley Fifield (Buxton, Maine) rounded
out USMís quintet with an 81.
Senior Cory Pion of Husson was the low medalist with a one-over-par 71.
USM returns to action on Sunday when the Huskies travel to the Waterville
CC to play in the annual Sid Farr Invitational. Teams will use a modified
Stableford scoring system for this event.
