Otto Fires Season-Best Round at UMF Invite
BELGRADE, Maine -- Sophomore transfer Patrick Otto (Furlong, Penn.) of
the University of Southern Maine Huskies golf team carded a season-best 73 to
finish fourth in the individual results at the University of Maine at Farmington
Invitational tournament played Wednesday at the Belgrade Lakes Golf Club.
The Huskies, with a team total of 335, finished seventh among the nine
teams competing in the event. Husson College won the event with a 307 total,
one stroke better than runner-up Green Mountain College. St. Joseph's College
was another stroke back at 309, and the host UMF team was fourth at 314.
St. Joseph's College's Blake Cunningham fired the low round of the day,
carding a 69 to win low medalist honors. UMF sophomore Sam Marzenell and Husson
senior Corey Pion tied for second at 71.
Other USM players included junior Mark Royer (Lovell, Maine) who shot 86,
and senior Kevin Beauregard and junior Bill Slaiding (Seekonk, Mass.) who both
came in with 88.
The Huskies will close out their fall schedule next Tuesday (Oct. 10) when
they host Bowdoin College, Bates College and Colby College at the Gorham CC.

Tribou, Husson College Take Top Honors at USM Invitational
GORHAM, Maine -- Greg Tribou fired a two-under-par 69 on Sunday
afternoon to take low medalist honors and lead the Husson College Braves to a
one-stroke victory over arch-rival University Maine at Farmington Beavers at the
USM Invitational Golf Tournament.
Tribou toured the 6,334-yard, par 71 Gorham Country Club course in 35-
34=69 to post the best score in event since it began six years ago. Husson's
four scoring players all fired 78 or better.
UMF's Sam Marzennell, who won the Maine Intercollegiate Golf Championship
on Friday at Riverside CC in Portland, was runner-up with a one-over-par 72.
The Beavers also had four players shooting 78 or better.
Three players, Ryan Derosier of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth,
Tim Poulin of UMaine Farmington and Pierre-Etienne Langeuin of Laval University
tied for third with 75.
For the host University of Southern Maine Huskies, who finished seventh
among the 13 competing teams, sophomore transfer Patrick Otto (Furlong, Penn.)
led the way with a 78 followed by senior Kevin Beauregard (Woonsocket, R.I.) who
carded a season-best 79. Junior Mark Royer (Lovell, Maine) came home with an
81, junior Bill Slaiding (Seekonk, Mass.) finished with an 84, and junior Corey
Junkins (Bangor, Maine) fired an 88.
The Huskies will tee it up next this Wednesday when they travel to
Farmington, Maine, to participate in the UMaine Farmington Invitational.

Huskies Tie for Sixth at State Championship
PORTLAND, Maine -- Sophomore Patrick Otto (Furlong, Penn.) carded a six-
over-par 78 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a sixth place
tie in the team standings at the annual Maine Intercollegiate Golf Championship
played Friday at Riverside Golf Club.
Husson College took home the team championship with a four-score total of
312. University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Sam Marzenell (Pittsfield,
Maine) took low medalist honors after firing a one-under-par 71.
In the team standings, Colby College and Bowdoin College tied for second
with a score of 315. UMaine Farmington was fourth at 320 followed by Thomas
College at 324 and St. Joseph's College and Southern Maine at 326.
For the Huskies, junior Mark Royer (Lovell, Maine) followed Otto with an
80. Senior Kevin Beauregard (Woonsocket, R.I.) and junior Bill Slaiding
(Seekonk, Mass.) each carded an 84. Junior Corey Junkins (Bangor, Maine) had a

Otto Finishes Third at Bowdoin Invitational
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Sophomore Patrick Otto (Furlong, Penn.) posted a
two-day total of 159 to finish third at the 2000 Polar Bear Invitational hosted
by Bowdoin College at Brunswick CC.
Otto fired a 77 in Sunday's opening round, good for third place. The
transfer from Slippery Rock (Penn.) University came back Monday with an 82 on
the par 72 Brunswick CC layout to remain in third place.
Otto finished four strokes behind Husson College's Corey Pion who carded a
155 over two days of competition to earn medalist honors. Husson captured the
team championship in the 13-school field. Husson finished with a combined score
of 648, 15 strokes ahead of second-place Tufts University.
Tufts University's Elliot Barr took second place with a 156, one stroke
behind Pion.
Other USM players included senior Kevin Beauregard (Woonsocket, R.I.) who
finished at 173, junior Bill Slaiding (Seekonk, Mass.) and junior Corey Junkins
(Bangor, Maine) who came in at 182, and senior Mark Royer (Lovell, Maine) at
184.
The Huskies were seventh among the 13 teams competing. USM returns to
action this Sunday (Sept. 24) when they play in the Sid Farr Invitational in
Waterville.

Huskies Take Fifth At Terrier Invitational
WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sophomore Patrick Otto (Furlong, Penn.) fired a
seven-over-par 77 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a fifth
place finish at the sixth annual "Terrier Invitational at the Samoset" on
Thursday.
Husson College captured the team championship in a sudden death playoff
against St. Joseph's College. Both teams finished regulation play with
identical 315 scores.
Thomas College sophomore Ryan Shumaker (Bangor, Maine) was the low
medalist with a two-over-par 72.
Other USM players were junior Bill Slaiding (Seekonk, Mass.) and senior
Mark Royer (Gray, Maine) who shot 81's, junior Corey Junkins (Bangor, Maine) who
fired a 91, and senior Kevin Beauregard (Woonsocket, R.I.) who carded a 92.

Huskies Take Fourth at Husson Invitational
HERMON, Maine -- Sophomore Patrick Otto (Furlong, Penn.) of the
University of Southern Maine golf team opened his collegiate career with a solid
eighth place finish as the Huskies placed fourth among 20 teams competing at the
two-day Husson College Invitational played at the Hermon Meadow GC. The
tournament was the season opener for the Huskies.
Otto toured the par 72 layout with a 78 in Sunday's opening round, the
came back Monday with a 79 to finish in an eighth place tie with Greg Tribou of
Husson.
Southern Maine's other four players, senior Kevin Beauregard (Woonsocket,
R.I.), junior Bill Slaiding (Seekonk, Mass.), junior Mark Royer (Lovell, Maine)
and junior Corey Junkins (Bangor, Maine) each posted a better score in the
second round. USM improved five positions in the team standings after Monday's
round.
The Huskies compiled aggregate team scores of 340-324=664 for the event.
They return to action Thursday traveling to Waterville for the Thomas College
Invitational.

New USM Athletic Staff Appointed
GORHAM, Maine -- Two head coaches are among the five new members
appointed to the University of Southern Maine athletic staff announced recently
by Director of Athletics Albert D. Bean Jr.
Reggie Grant is the Huskies new golf coach and Robert Haile has been named
sailing coach. Melissa Dauteuil was appointed women's soccer assistant coach
while Alan Curtis assumes the same duties for men's soccer. Greg Jordan has been
appointed sports information assistant.
Grant replaces Mark Fogg who led the Husky linksters for the past three
seasons. A Windham, Maine, resident, Grant is a 1971 graduate of Gorham State
College. He has an extensive background as the former high school golf and
softball coach at Westbrook High School. A long-time, well-known basketball
official in the southern Maine area, Grant also provides individualized golf
instruction in the local area and is director of the Double-R-Par Golf Academy.
Grant presently serves as a guidance counselor at Portland High School. The
Huskies open their season September 10-11 at the Husson College Invitational.
Haile will direct the Huskies' fourth-year sailing program. He succeeds
Michael Horn who coached USM's spring 2000 season. Haile is a sailmaker at
Maine Sailing Partners of Yarmouth and competes locally and regionally in one-
design and PHRF fleet races. A 1994 graduate of the University of West Florida
(Pensacola, Fla.), he sailed for their varsity team and has served as racing
director and branch manager for the Offshore Sailing School at several
locations. Haile is a Portland, Maine, resident. USM's sailors begin their
fall 2000 season September 16-17 when they travel to Boston for the two-day
Hatch Brown Regatta.
Dauteuil will work with third-year women's soccer head coach Steve
Quinones. A native of Epsom, N.H., Dauteuil now resides in Saco, Maine. She is
a 1998 graduate of the University of New England (Biddeford, Maine), and was the
Maine Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year in her senior season
(1997) leading the Nor'easters in scoring with 32 points. She coached the
Biddeford High School girls junior varsity soccer team in 1999. Southern Maine
starts its season Saturday (September 2) in the Radisson Kickoff Tournament at
St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont.
Curtis will assist first-year men's soccer coach Eric Miller this fall.
He brings wide and varied soccer experience to the position. He guided the
Southern Maine Technical College team for the past six years, served as director
of coaching for the Gorham (Maine) Youth Soccer Association, and coached the
Gorham High School boys junior varsity team for three years. He played college
soccer at Lyndon State College (Lyndonville,Vt.), and King Alfred's College
(Winchester, England) prior to graduating from the University of Southern Maine
in 1990. Curtis resides in Gorham. USM's season commences Sunday (September 3)
at Husson College in Bangor.
Jordan will serve as the sports information assistant, and also will
assume responsibilities as the Little East Conference publicist. A 1986
graduate of USM, Jordan has been a long-time volunteer and part-time staff
member in the Huskies' athletic department. He also has been the Huskies'
basketball and baseball public address announcer for many years. He will work
under the direction of sports information director B.L. Elfring. Jordan is a
South Portland, Maine, resident.
