GORHAM, Maine -- Two head coaches are among the five new members
appointed to the University of Southern Maine athletic staff announced recently
by Director of Athletics Albert D. Bean Jr.
Reggie Grant is the Huskies new golf coach and Robert Haile has been named
sailing coach. Melissa Dauteuil was appointed women's soccer assistant coach
while Alan Curtis assumes the same duties for men's soccer. Greg Jordan has been
appointed sports information assistant.
Grant replaces Mark Fogg who led the Husky linksters for the past three
seasons. A Windham, Maine, resident, Grant is a 1971 graduate of Gorham State
College. He has an extensive background as the former high school golf and
softball coach at Westbrook High School. A long-time, well-known basketball
official in the southern Maine area, Grant also provides individualized golf
instruction in the local area and is director of the Double-R-Par Golf Academy.
Grant presently serves as a guidance counselor at Portland High School. The
Huskies open their season September 10-11 at the Husson College Invitational.
Haile will direct the Huskies' fourth-year sailing program. He succeeds
Michael Horn who coached USM's spring 2000 season. Haile is a sailmaker at
Maine Sailing Partners of Yarmouth and competes locally and regionally in one-
design and PHRF fleet races. A 1994 graduate of the University of West Florida
(Pensacola, Fla.), he sailed for their varsity team and has served as racing
director and branch manager for the Offshore Sailing School at several
locations. Haile is a Portland, Maine, resident. USM's sailors begin their
fall 2000 season September 16-17 when they travel to Boston for the two-day
Hatch Brown Regatta.
Dauteuil will work with third-year women's soccer head coach Steve
Quinones. A native of Epsom, N.H., Dauteuil now resides in Saco, Maine. She is
a 1998 graduate of the University of New England (Biddeford, Maine), and was the
Maine Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year in her senior season
(1997) leading the Nor'easters in scoring with 32 points. She coached the
Biddeford High School girls junior varsity soccer team in 1999. Southern Maine
starts its season Saturday (September 2) in the Radisson Kickoff Tournament at
St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont.
Curtis will assist first-year men's soccer coach Eric Miller this fall.
He brings wide and varied soccer experience to the position. He guided the
Southern Maine Technical College team for the past six years, served as director
of coaching for the Gorham (Maine) Youth Soccer Association, and coached the
Gorham High School boys junior varsity team for three years. He played college
soccer at Lyndon State College (Lyndonville,Vt.), and King Alfred's College
(Winchester, England) prior to graduating from the University of Southern Maine
in 1990. Curtis resides in Gorham. USM's season commences Sunday (September 3)
at Husson College in Bangor.
Jordan will serve as the sports information assistant, and also will
assume responsibilities as the Little East Conference publicist. A 1986
graduate of USM, Jordan has been a long-time volunteer and part-time staff
member in the Huskies' athletic department. He also has been the Huskies'
