2008 Camp DirectorsBonny Brown-Denico, USM Field Hockey Coach, is entering her 11th year as head coach at USM. Coach Brown-Denico is a former two time All-Ameri-can for the Huskies and was a member of the 1987 Final Four Team. She was inducted into the USM Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Coach Brown has coached five Regional All Americans and one National All American. In 2003, her team won the Little East Conference and qualified for the NCAA National Tournament. Under her direction, STIX Field Hockey Camp has earned a reputation as one of the finest field hockey camps in the East! Mike Drummey, USM Pole Vault Coach, is the highest vaulter in New England history with a best jump of 18’6. He was a six time All-American at SCSU and a three time National Champion. After his college career, he went on to compete throughout the country and in Japan. Mike has jumped and coached with the best athletes in the United States and has developed techniques that produce great results. Gary Fifield, USM Women's Basketball Coach, is beginning his 21st season as the head coach of the USM Women’s Basketball Program. Coach Fifield came to USM in 1987 and quickly established himself among the premier women’s college basketball coaches in the nation. Fifield entered the 2007 - 2008 season with a USM career record of 516 and 82. His 86% winning record places him first in the nation among active NCAA women’s basketball coaches. Fifield was named Division III “National Coach of the Year” in 2005. He has been selected New England “Coach of the Year” five times and Little East Conference “Coach of the Year” 13 times. In 1998, 2000 and 2006 Fifield led the USM Women’s Basketball Team to the National Championship Game. In 1993, Fifield served as an assistant coach at the U.S. Olympic Festival. Fifield was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. Ed Flaherty, USM Baseball Coach, is a master at every aspect of the game and is recognized as one of the finest teaching coaches at any level. During his 22 seasons as the Huskies’ head coach, he has compiled an impressive mark of 653-289. The veteran mentor has led the Huskies to postseason play 16 seasons, including six appearances in the NCAA Division III College World Series, capturing national championship honors in both 1991 and 1997. A standout player at the University of Maine, Flaherty received NCAA Division I All-America honors and helped guide his University of Maine team to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Flaherty was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in January 2005. Karl Henrikson, USM Men's Basketball Coach, is entering his 5th season. Coach Henrikson is a veteran clinician and master teacher who brings an abundance of basketball experience and knowledge of the game. Henrikson has been named coach of the year four times. His teams at UM Presque Isle and Maine Central Institute won 58% & 78% of their respective contests. Henrikson is a sought after lecturer and clinician speaking at camps and clinics throughout the United States and Europe. Mike Keller, USM Men's Soccer Coach, is entering his 5th year as the USM men’s soccer coach. Keller has coached at the NAIA, NCAA Division I and Division III levels. He has been named Coach of the Year twice and has led his team to post-season play eight of the past thirteen years. In his years in the collegiate ranks he has coached five All-Americans, numerous All-New England, All-State and All-Conference Players. Keller was the Maine ODP coaching director and head coach for four years. A youth soccer coach and head coach in the state ODP Keller has a strong background in youth athletics. He has been certified to teach the State, Regional, and Advanced Regional Coaching courses for the NSCAA. He holds a National “D” License from the United States Soccer Federation and Goal keeping and Professional Develop-ment Certifications from the NSCAA. Lisa Petruccelli, USM Women's Soccer Coach, returned home to Maine in 2006 to become the Huskies’ Head Coach. She has been coaching at the col-legiate level for 16 years, in both Divisions I and III. She was voted Coach of the Year in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1998. Lisa was an All-state player in high school and played four years at Smith College. She has a Bachelors degree in biology, a Masters degree in kinesiology and sport management and a National Diploma from the NSCAA. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the NSCA. She has over 20 years of experience at soccer camps as counselor, coach, administrator or director. Mike Mullett, Assistant Athletic Director, is entering his 14th year at USM and his 3rd in the Athletic Department. A longtime coach of youth sports including soccer, baseball and basketball, Mike is also an avid golf and sports fan. As an athletics “generalist,” Mike has interest in presenting a variety of sports to young kids and has developed the USM All Sports Camp as a positive venue for doing so. |
