Wednesday, May 3, 2000 Kevin Faria to Attend NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine senior men's soccer and track standout Kevin Faria (Litchfield, N.H.) was among the 353 student-athletes that have been selected to participate in the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference. Faria was selected from among a total of 885 nominees from NCAA member institutions that participate in the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. He will attend the conference that is being held May 28-June 1, 2000, at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The conference will focus on topics identified during the nomination process as well as topics recommended by members of the Division I, II and III Student-Athlete Advisory Committees. Topics for past conferences have included developing leadership skills, changing perception, developing political skills and utilizing the student-athlete committee. The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders in their campuses and in their communities. A sprinter and long jumper, Faria is a tri-captain for the indoor and outdoor track teams this year. He played soccer this past season for the first time since high school, earning a starting spot in the lineup at defender. Faria played two seasons of baseball and was a member of the Huskies' 1997 NCAA Division III national championship team before switching his concentration to the indoor and outdoor track programs in 1998.
