Scholarships for Incoming and Current ASET Students
|
The School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (ASET) at the University of Southern Maine wants incoming and current students to be aware of the scholarship opportunities that exist for those interested in computer science, engineering, environmental science, or technology degree programs.
ASET is fortunate to have individuals, foundations, and area companies that provide financial support in the form of scholarships. Many of the available scholarships are intended for incoming students, while others support current students enrolled in ASET programs.
Generally, each scholarship requires that you complete an application. It may also require an essay and/or additional supporting materials. The following provides information about each of the available ASET scholarships, the criteria, and what is required to apply.
USM General
Scholarship Application - deadline February 27, 2007
The deadline for the USM
General Scholarship Application has been extended to March
9th - For any USM

USM Alumni Association Scholarship - deadline February 27,

Governor's Computer Science Scholarship sponsored by Wright Express LLC, $2,000
This named scholarship was established at
the University of Southern Maine in 2000 by Wright Express LLC in honor
of Governor Angus King’s work to improve and expand computer science
education in Maine. The award will be given in the fall to an incoming
first-year student at the University of Southern Maine with an interest
in studying Computer Science.
Criteria:
Eligible students will be enrolling as full-time, first-year students with a declared major in
Computer Science at the undergraduate or
graduate level; be a Maine resident, and
demonstrate the potential of maintaining a 3.0
GPA.
Selection:
Selection requires
an application and acceptance to the University

INCOMING STUDENT - ENVIRONMENTAL
SAFETY & HEALTH
Jack Eagleson Scholarship $1500
This named scholarship was established at
the University of Southern Maine in 2004 by the Eagleson Institute. The
Eagleson Institute is a non-profit foundation founded in memory of John
M. Eagleson, Jr. The award will be given annually in the fall to an
incoming first-year student at the University of Southern Maine with an
interest in studying Environmental Safety and Health.
Criteria:
Eligible students
will be enrolling as a full-time freshman
or current USM student in good standing with 22
or less earned credit hours. Eligible students must intend on majoring in the environmental safety and health program, and have a demonstrated financial need (must apply for financial aid). Preference will be given to children of employees of The Baker Company, who meet the above criteria. Recipients of the award will be given preference for available internships at The Baker Company or the Eagleson Institute.

Criteria:
Eligible students must be a declared ASET major who is a Maine resident. Recipients may be incoming students with promise of being able to achieve the requisite grade point average of continuing students, or continuing students having at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need (must have applied for financial aid).

NiSource Charitable Foundation Scholarship $500
Criteria:
NiSource Charitable Foundation sponsors this scholarship for a student in the School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology who has completed at least 30 credit hours toward their ASET major degree, of which at least 15 credits have been completed at USM. Student must presently be a degree candidate, be carrying and continue to carry at least 6 credit hours per semester, and have a GPA of at least 3.0.

A student may apply for and receive a scholarship more than once, but previous award of a scholarship does not guarantee that the same student will receive an additional scholarship.

Scholarship
Criteria:
This scholarship will be awarded to
students majoring in technology education or applied technical
education, with priority going to those students who are nontraditional.
Nontraditional students are defined as those qualified for independent
status by federal financial aid regulations. Recipients must be enrolled
at least half-time (6 hours per semester) in order to receive the award.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required and recipients must have financial need
as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Construction-Related Careers
Criteria:
Must be a Maine resident, entering or enrolled in an undergraduate
construction-related field of study at an accredited Maine
post-secondary institute, must demonstrate a financial need and meet
reasonable academic standards.
