Selection
Selection is based on criteria established by each of the scholarships. Most of the scholarships require an application or nomination. Awards will be given to eligible students based on the criteria provided with the scholarship.
The actual receipt of an awarded scholarship is contingent upon your enrollment status at USM and meeting the specified conditions of the scholarship.

Please Note:
You may apply for any scholarships for which you are qualified. Please submit a separate application and essay for each scholarship. Submit fully completed applications and materials by mail or in person. Winners will be notified during March, 2008.
In addition to the above scholarships, USM students may be eligible for other general scholarships. Visit the Office of Financial Aid for a complete listing. Click on "USM Scholarship Resources."
Other scholarships are available to ASET students by faculty nomination based on academic success, including the L.L. Bean Maine Business for USM Scholars (for Environmental Science), Environmental Science Alumni Scholarship (for Environmental Science), Lawrence N. Cilley Scholarship (for Technology Education), New England Association of Technology Teachers (for Technology Education), Clifford Parsons Scholarship (for Technology Education).

Any ASET Major
Brian Hodgkin Scholarship, $1,000

Criteria
Eligible students must be a declared ASET major who is a Maine resident. Recipients may be incoming students with promise of being able to achieve the requisite grade point average of continuing students, or continuing students having at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need (must have applied for financial aid).

I.O.O.F. Unity Lodge #3 Scholarship, $1,000

Criteria
Eligible students will be Maine residents with demonstrated financial need (must have applied for financial aid), and be enrolled in the School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology in good academic standing.

NiSource Charitable Foundation Scholarship, $500

Criteria
NiSource Charitable Foundation sponsors this scholarship for a student in the School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology who has completed at least 30 credit hours toward their ASET major degree, of which at least 15 credits have been completed at USM. Student must presently be a degree candidate, be carrying and continue to carry at least 6 credit hours per semester, and have a GPA of at least 3.0.

Eligible students will be enrolled as a full-time, first-year student at USM with a declared major in Information Science or a related field (Computer Science, Information and Communications Technology, or Computer Engineering) at the undergraduate level; be a Maine resident, have 22 or less earned credits and a GPA of at least 3.0., and have financial need (must have applied for financial aid).

Criteria
Eligible students will be enrolled as full-time students with a declared major in USM's Computer Science programs either at the undergraduate or graduate level; be incoming their sophomore year or higher (at least 23 earned credits), be Maine residents, and have at least a 3.0 GPA. A student may apply for and receive a scholarship more than once, but previous award of a scholarship does not guarantee that the same student will receive an additional scholarship.

Electrical Engineering Major
Masi Engineering Research Scholarship, $500

Scholarships to support Technology Education
William G. Hooper & Laura S. Hooper Scholarship , $2,600

Criteria
This scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in industrial technology,
who intend to complete their undergraduate studies in order to enter into the
teacher certification program (ETEP) at the University of Southern Maine, with
priority going to those students who are nontraditional. Nontraditional students
are defined as those qualified for independent status by federal financial aid
regulations. Recipients must be enrolled at least half-time (6 hours per
semester) in order to receive the award. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required and
recipients must have financial need as determined by the Office of Student
Financial Aid.

Construction-Related Careers
Criteria

2009-2010 Trimmer Education Foundation
AMOS D. Bridge Scholarship Program for construction-related programs.
Criteria
Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate construction-related program
such as our Industrial Technology degree with a Construction Management
concentration.
Preference will be given to applicants preparing for a career in the
construction industry - architecture and civil engineering students are eligible
to apply. Preference will be given to applicants that are current, active
members in an ABC Student Chapter program, or are employed by an ABC member
firm. Applicants must have successfully completed at least one year in an
associate or baccalaureate degree program, with at least one full year left.
Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and GPA of 3.0 in the major.
If no courses have been attempted in the major, a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is
required.
