USM Arboretum Day & Plant Sale

The University of Southern Maine Arboretum Committee and the family of the late Joe B. Parks would like to thank everyone who attended the inaugural USM Arboretum Day on Saturday June 4th, 2011.  The event included a plant sale with representation from O’Donal’s Nursery, Meservey Farms and the Maine Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. There were refreshments, kids' planting and craft activities, and beautiful weather! The event featured the dedication of the Joe B. Parks Rhododendron Garden located in front of the historic Academy Building on USM’s Gorham campus. Speakers included the daughters of Joe B. Parks, Meg Weston of USM, and Jeff O'Donal of O'Donal's Nursery who worked closely with Joe on the cultivation and hybridization of rhododendrons and azaleas.
