    Family: Rosaceae

 

    Hardiness:  Hardy in the Gorham, ME area; Zone 4-7

 

    Mature Dimensions:  25’ in height with a 20’ width

 

    Habit:  Upright and rounded

 

    Bark:  Amber colored with medium texture; branches are armed with slender 1-3 inch       

    thorns

 

    Buds:  Solitary, sessile and round, with 4-6 fleshy reddish brown scales

 

    Leaves:  Simple, alternate; 1-3 inches long with 2-4 finely toothed lobes.  Glossy dark   

    green turning to yellowish-brown in fall

 

    Flowers:  ½ inch in diameter, rose-like; double, fragrant flowers open white and age to  

    a rosy pink.  Flowers appear in Gorham in early June.

 

    Fruit:  Scarlet and berry-like; ¼ inch long, matures in September-October

 

    Pests/ Diseases:  Japanese beetles, aphids, hawthorn leaf spot, various rusts (although  

    this variety has been bred to be especially resistant to rusts)
