'Sugar Tyme' Malus

Hardiness: Hardy in the Gorham, ME area; Zone 4-7

Mature Dimensions: 15-20 feet tall by 15 feet wide

Habit: Upright oval, spreading

Bark: Shiny gray brown, scaly on mature trees

Buds: Ovoid, with several overlapping scales, reddish brown and slightly hairy

Leaves: Simple, alternate, lanceolate, with entire margins, 3 ½" by 1 ¼". Dark green color matures to yellow in autumn

Flowers: Pink buds open to pure white, fragrant, 5-petaled flowers occurring in clusters

Fruit: Cherry-red, with persistent calyx; ripe in October, ½ inch diameter persistent into winter

Pests/Diseases: Quite resistant; occasional Japanese beetle or fireblight damage
