Mature Dimensions: 50-80 feet tall by 30-40 feet wide
Habit: Uniform and upright

Bark: Semi-smooth gray bark has darker colored ridges

Buds: Brownish and mounded, ¼ -1/2 inch in length, 1/8th to ¼ inch wide. The buds give the tree a spiky appearance in early spring

Leaves: Simple, alternate, fan shaped and dichotomously veined; 2-3 inches long by 2-3 inches wide and bright green. In fall, leaves turn to brilliant yellow and may drop instantaneously with a freeze

Flowers: Dioecious, both borne in April-May; male flowers are green catkins 1 inch long that are borne on short shoots. Female flowers are borne on a 1-2 inch stalk and possess 1-2 greenish ovules

Fruit: Orange colored, plum shaped, and 1-1 ½ inches long; not a true fruit; rather, a naked seed. The fleshy covering on the female seeds has an odor akin to rotted meat (to aid in pollination)

Pests/Diseases: Extremely free of pests and disease; very occasionally afflicted by leaf spot
