'Crimson King' Maple

Hardiness: Hardy in the Gorham, ME area; Zone 4-7

Mature Dimensions: 40-60' tall by 30-40' wide

Habit: Rounded, dense, symmetrical crown

Bark: Grayish black with shallow ridges and furrows

Buds: Greenish-maroon, scaly; terminal ¼-1/2" long, overlapping, with 2
accessory buds ½ the size of the terminal. Lateral-1/8" long, 2-3 scaled

Leaves: Simple, opposite, 4-7" long and as wide; 5-lobed, rich maroon color
throughout leaf season

Flowers: Maroon-yellow, perfect, 1/3" diameter, produced in many-flowered
corymbs, appear in late April before leafout

Fruit: ½-1" winged samara, maturing in September-October

Pests/Diseases: None serious
