Hardiness: Marginally hardy in the Gorham, ME area; Zone 4(5)-8(9)

Mature Dimensions: 40-50 feet tall, 20-30 feet wide

Habit: Broadly pyramidal

Bark: Shiny brown in youth, maturing to a furrowed gray brown

Buds: Gray-brown, fuzzy, broad overlapping scales, ½ inch long, divergent from stem

Leaves: Broad-ovate, 2-3" long, 2-3" wide, wavy-entire margin. Shiny dark green leaves mature to yellow-red in autumn

Flowers: White, ½-3/4" wide, 5-7 petals, orange-red stamen, borne in delicate corymbs

Fruit: Rounded pome, ½-3/4" across; brown and slightly rough textured

Pests/Diseases: Susceptible to fireblight; specimens at USM Gorham have been trouble-free
