Mature Dimensions: 15-30' tall, 20-30' wide

Habit: Rounded, shrublike

Bark: Grayish, with reddish fissures; relatively smooth texture

Buds: ½ inch long, greenish-red, with overlapping scales; inner scales lanceolate and bright red in the upper half

Leaves: Simple, alternate, elliptic-ovate, 1 ¼-3 inches long with a finely toothed margin; bronze when emerging, maturing to a dark green; yellow to scarlet in autumn

Flowers: White, fleecy 4-inch panicles appear in late April

Fruit: Spherical berry 1/3 inch in diameter; purple black in maturity and edible; attractive to birds for food

Pests/Diseases: Relatively problem free; some rust
