Habit: Broadly pyramidal with sloping branches
Buds: Small and globose; grayish brown and resinous
Leaves/Needles: ½ to 1 inch long and 1/16 inch wide; flat and gently tapered. Upper surface dark green; lower surface striped with 2 white broad lines of stoma
Flowers: Monoecious and barely visible
Fruit: Sessile cylindrical cones 2-3 inches in length are purplish when immature and brown when ripe.
Pests/ Disease: Spruce budworm, wooly adelgid, various types of canker
