PhD in Applied Medical Sciences

Doctoral Studies in Applied Medical Sciences

Students can pursue doctoral studies in toxicology, molecular biology, cell biology, neuroscience, virology, and immunology at USM through two mechanisms.

One is through the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) at the University of Maine.  Students apply to the GSBS and perform some of their rotations at USM. They may then choose a mentor at USM to study with if the mentor also agrees. Application guidelines can be found at http://gsbs.umaine.edu/programs/toxicology/

The other program is also  a cooperative Ph.D. Program with the University of Maine that is distinct from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) at the University of Maine.  Students in this program typically complete all of their coursework, research and training, and participate in graduation ceremonies, all at USM. Application and acceptance into this program requires agreement of a faculty member at USM to serve as a mentor for the student and then a successful application to the University of Maine.  Currently, nine at USM students are enrolled in this program.
