University
Organizations
The use of experiential action-based education has been
experienced by many College and University groups both
within the University of Southern Maine and other area
schools. Graduate programs such as the Master's in Business
Administration and Extended Teacher Education Program
(ETEP) utilize team building
focussed
activities to meld their cohort groups of very diverse
individuals into cohesive learning partners. The ETEP
program is a two-day overnite program which allows for
a bonding experience they could not gain in a traditional
classroom setting.
Administrative departments and programs have utilized
the expertise of our Action Leaning Center programms
to facilitate leadership and team-building opportunities
for thier staff. These programs are similar in nature,
if not identical, to those used by clients in the business
and industry sector.
Student groups and associations have also found the
programs to be informative and fun. The action Learning
Center offers programs which allow groups to experience
an activity such as kayaking in Casco Bay or working
on the high elements to test themselves and their abilities.
Groups that have utilized the ALC include: Staff of
Facilities Management, Admissions, CEHD Classified and
Professional Staff (CPS), Russell Scholars, MBA Program,
Nursing, CEHD ETEP and CEHD TEAMS programs, Upward Bound
Program, and Therapeutic Recreation,
