The belief that experiences with physical and mental challenges set in the natural world can be a catalyst for team building and leadership development and that the gain from these experiences are readily transferable to other environments, organizations, and institutions prompted the USM College of Education and Human Development to establish the Action Learning Center.

Instructors with expertise in experiential adventure-based education assist participants in the development of self-awareness, confidence, motivation, decision making, leadership, team building, responsibility, communication skills, problem-solving, and trust.
