Wil Kilroy
The fifth exchange took place June 2001. Actor and theater director Wil Kilroy will travelled to Lesvos where he conducted acting workshops and directed a performance of scenes from American plays. The scenes were performed in Greek and in English (one was repeated in both languages) by members of local theater groups, and took place in the theater of Filotechnikos Omilos Mytilinis in Mytilene.
Wil Kilroy, currently
a theatre professor at the University of Southern Maine, previously
taught at Santa Monica College in California, and was a member
of the Michael Chekhov Drama Group and the Hollywood Directors
Lab. Active in summer theatre for the past fifteen years,
Wil has directed productions ranging from Nunsense at Maine's
Strawflower Theatre to Look Back in Anger in Venice, CA.
His acting roles range from Tom in the musical Pulp Alley
for New York's West Bank Theatre and Philip in the Hollywood premiere
of Hotel Universe, to Caroline in the City and Babylon
5, to commercials and the daytime serials All My Children
and As the World Turns. Locally he has been seen
as Joe DiMaggio in Shenanigans Productions - where he's
also directed. Wil's USM productions of A Midsummer Night's
Dream and Everything Sprite were chosen for competition
in the American College Theatre Festival, with Sprite also
chosen for performance at New York's Village Gate. Wil was
a recipient of a faculty scholarship to the Kennedy Center in
Washington, has studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Art
and National Shakespeare Conservatory in New York, and holds theatre
degrees from the University of Rhode Island and the University
of Illinois.
