Activating your Email account and User name

In order to meet the academic and administrative needs of the University community, the University of Southern Maine has established email as an official and primary means of communication to all of its students, accepted and/or enrolled.

How to activate your email account:

If you have not activated your email account and/or user name, you should have received a letter with an activation code and your email address.
Go to https://mail.maine.edu/ to start the process.
Click on Account Activation.
Enter your identification number. This is usually your social security number. For some students it could be an university assigned number which starts with 811.

Enter your identification number: 123456789 REQUIRED (Do NOT include spaces or dashes) and enter your activation key: XXXXXXX REQUIRED (Enter EXACTLY as printed)

Enter your activation code as printed (Letters are in CAP).
Click Continue
You will then be able to create your own password.
Your user name is the name part of your email address. (Do not include the @maine.edu.)

Having Trouble Activating:

You might have already activated your account earlier and forgot your password.

You can reset your password at https://mail.maine.edu/ and click Reset lost password.
