An important facet to any successful experience at an institution of higher learning is participation in the campus and surrounding community. With this in mind, the University of Southern Maine encourages the recipients of its merit scholarships to get involved.

Students who have participated in volunteer activities have gained invaluable experience and education. Many students take the opportunity to gain practical experience in their area of study, get involved in something they are interested in, gain information about an organization they know little about, or just become an active member of the greater community.

Scholarship recipients are encouraged to volunteer with the University of Southern Maine 's Office of Undergraduate Admission Office.  This is a great way to meet prospective students and welcome them to the USM community.  Ways to get involved Include:

Undergraduate Admission Volunteer Opportunities

• Fall Open House - TBA
  Meet with prospective students.
  
• Accepted Student Days - April 4, 2008 and April 11, 2008. Meet with students who have been accepted to USM. Partcipate in a reception for newly admitted Merit Scholars!
• Info Sessions/ Special Presentations - usually on Saturdays. Meet with groups of students and parents to discuss USM.
  
• Day Visits - (Spring Semester Only) Host a prospective student by taking them to one of your classes.
