GORMAN SCHOLARS FUND
The Gorman Scholars Fund was established to help Maine Community College students continue their education at USM. Any student admitted to USM by June 6, 2008 for the fall semester and who meets the following criteria will be automatically considered for one of five $2,500 scholarships. These scholarships will be renewable for up to three (3) years.
- Maine resident transferring from a Maine Community College
- Minimum 24 earned credits
- Minimum transfer grade point average of 3.0
- Planning to attend USM full-time (minimum 12 credit hours per semester)

- Leon and Lisa Gorman Scholarship

This two-year award was established by the Gormans to assist transfer students in making the transition to the University of Southern Maine. Transfer students applying to USM
for fall admission with a minimum of 24 credit hours earned and a minimum transfer grade point average of 3.0 are encouraged to apply.
- Osher Reentry Scholarship Fund (PDF)
The Osher Reentry Scholars Fund was established at the University of Southern
Maine by the Bernard Osher Foundation. Applicants for this award must be
matriculated in their first USM baccalaureate degree, must be registered for
at least six (6) credits for the semester of receipt, and must be an
undergraduate reentry student who has experienced a gap of five or more years
in pursuit of his or her education and who can look forward to a significant
number of years of workforce participation after completion of the
baccalaureate degree. Applications due Monday, June 2, 2008.
- Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship
(Awarded on a limited basis)
Transfer Affairs in the USM Office of Undergraduate Admission promotes the continued education of exemplary students who have earned an associate degree at a community or technical college. Membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is a pre-requisite for consideration. All transfer students
applying for fall admission who meet the

- Member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
- 3.25 GPA and an A.A., A.S. or A.A.S. degree from a community or technical college (Non-U. S. citizens and students with previous bachelor's degree are not eligible)
- Applying for fall admission and intending to enroll full-time
- Completed application on file by May 1st
- Awarded in the amount of $500 per semester (fall and spring
semesters only)
- Renewable for up to three consecutive semesters
