Important Dates and Deadlines
The calendar is a guideline for knowing when to expect information from the university or when to take a specific action.
January - February - Financial Aid Filing Dates
Students applying after the February 15th deadline may not have their FAFSA data sent to USM by the March 1 priority receipt date and will be awarded financial aid only as funds remain available. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form can be found at our website. Application and award status is available by using our Distributed Student Information System (Web DSIS) on-line at www.maine.edu/admin/dsis. Your initial PIN is your six digit date of birth. January - Orientation
Beginning in November, all admitted students will receive an invitation to participate in the New Student Advising and Registration Program, where you will meet with an academic advisor and register for your
spring courses. You will be invited to a specific date and will need to confirm attendance. Students who require
English or math placement exams must make arrangements to take the exam(s) prior to attending the New Student Advising and Registration Program. For more information contact the Office of New Student Advising and Registration at 207-780-4604 or visit us at

October - December - Proof of Immunization
All students must submit the necessary immunization documentation prior to registering for classes at New Student Advising and Registration. If you haven’t done so, mail or fax a copy of your immunization record to University Health Services at 207-780-4911 (include student I.D. number) as soon as possible. University Health Services can arrange for immunization. For more information or to make an appointment, contact University Health Services at 207-780-4923.
October-December - Advanced Placement Examinations
If you have received a score of 3 or better on an AP exam and would like to receive credit, you may contact AP at: www.apcentral.collegeboard.com or 1-888-225-5427 to request that a transcript of the exam(s) be forwarded to USM (test site #3691) at: Joyce Lapping, Director, Office of Prior Learning Assessment, University of Southern Maine, 253 Luther Bonney Hall, 96 Falmouth Street, Portland, ME 04104-9300 www.usm.maine.edu/pla.
October - December - Transfer Credit Evaluations
Transfer students must submit official final college transcripts for evaluation to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. An official final copy of your Transfer Credit Evaluation will be mailed to you. December-January - USM Bookstores
The USM Bookstores are the source for all textbook titles and required course materials. Texts and materials are sold at the bookstore on the campus where the class is held. Textbooks begin arriving 6-8 weeks before the start of the semester and will be available for purchase as soon as they are received. Please call the bookstore on the campus where your class will meet to check availability. We offer three ways to order your books: You may now shop online at www.usm.maine.edu/books, have your texts mailed to you, or buy them at the USM Bookstores in Portland, Gorham, or at Lewiston. October - Submit Housing
application and Meal Plans
Housing and roommate assignments will be mailed to students who have submitted housing contracts and have been granted housing. A meal plan will be applied to your account and a meal card picture will be taken during New Student Advising and Registration or the first week of classes. January - Student Billing and Payment Plan Options
All students who have registered for classes at orientation will be
expected to make payment or start a payment plan. USM offers three convenient payment plans each semester. Each payment plan has a non refundable enrollment fee of $25.00 per semester. Payments are due the 15th of each month for the fall semester. For the latest information regarding payment plans and Credit/Debit Card authorization, visit us at www.usm.maine.edu/buso.
January - Student Health Insurance Plans

November - January - Personal Computers
