School of Business

Are you always the one figuring out who owes what when you go out with your friends? Maybe you have a knack for making money or advising others how to make money, or are always thinking about the kind of business you’d start or how you could take an idea or a product and make people want to buy it. We’d tell you that you have a mind for business, and we can help you turn that into a great career.

With majors in accounting, finance, and marketing, as well as concentrations in sport management, international business, entrepreneurship, and, risk management, and insurance, you can turn your talent into a career. And USM is a great place to do it. Business schools worldwide seek professional accreditation by AACSB International, but only one third of all institutions --including the USM School of Business -- have achieved it.

As a student in the USM School of Business:

  • You are part of a community of thoughtful career-minded peers who make classroom discussion exciting
  • Your professors incorporate the newest thinking and latest business trends into their teaching.
  • Our partnerships with business leaders in greater Portland and New England mean you get lots of exposure to modern business perspectives and practices.
  • You’ll also tackle the same challenges businesses are facing right now, apply what you’ve learned in real business settings, and start your network of career connections.

Take a look at our programs, read what our students have to say about us, or contact us – e-mail or phone works. We’re ready to answer questions, talk with you about your future plans, or give you some examples of the kind real-world experience you get while you’re here… submit a winning business plan and you could win $10,000 to start your own business in the annual USM Student Business Plan Competition; intern at one of hundreds of businesses like A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc., the Portland Pirates, the Portland Sea Dogs, L.L. Bean, or National Semiconductor; or get involved with any of our professor research areas like analyzing consumer behavior, researching sports marketing, or looking at small business practices.
