ADVISING:
Academic Advising for students with declared majors is available by contacting specific academic departments. Academic advising for undeclared or non-matriculated (special) students is available through our Student Success Centers on the Portland, Gorham, and Lewiston-Auburn campus. The centers provide academic advising to assist students in interpreting University curricula requirements and making decisions regarding an appropriate selection of courses.

General questions or concerns should be directed to the Winter Session Office at (207) 780-5617.

COURSE CANCELLATION:
The University reserves the right to cancel courses in the case of low enrollment or lack of qualified instructor.

FAILURE TO WITHDRAW:
Failure to submit notice of withdrawal may result in a failing grade and a financial liability. Discussion with faculty members is not proper notification of change. In the case of a student withdrawal after the automatic grade "W" period, the student will receive a grade designation to be determined by the instructor.

ACADEMIC WITHDRAWAL POLICY:
Students may withdraw from a course after the end of the add/drop period through 60% of a course. If a student has not officially withdrawn by 60% of the course, one of the above regular grades, normally F, will be assigned. The W notation may be obtained after completion of 60% of the course under unusual circumstances if so determined by the instructor and the dean. A threat of failure is not considered to be an unusual circumstance.

REFUND POLICY:
100% -Ends on or before December 21, 2009
50% -Ends December 27, 2009
25% -Ends January 3, 2010

DISCLAIMER:
The University reserves the right to cancel course offerings, to set minimum and maximum size of classes, to change designated instructors in courses, and to make decisions affecting the academic standing of anyone participating in a course or program offered by the University of Southern Maine.
