LESSON PLAN FORMAT

As art teachers plan cumulative and sequential art curriculums, it is useful to consider parts of a complete lesson plan. The following is a suggested general format:

• Goals/Focus Overview of the lesson giving its relationship to the curriculum including how it relates to the preceding and following lessons

• Objectives/Performance Indicators Content the student should learn through this lesson

• Resources Instructional aids and other teaching resources

• Time Number of class sessions and their length that this lesson requires

• Vocabulary Terms students should learn and/or reinforce through this lesson

• Materials and Preparation List of materials and tools students will use for this lesson and preparation tasks for the teacher

• Introduction An introduction to the lesson for students which includes relationship with previous lessons

• Instruction Step-by-step guidance for teaching or guided discovery

• Activities Student learning activities

• Evaluation Assessment strategies that correlate directly with the objectives for this lesson

• Extensions Suggested ways to provide further practice, enhance career awareness, use community resources, challenge G/T students, make links with other content areas.
