Welcome delegates!
I would like to be among the first to welcome you to
the 2004 Maine Model United Nations Conference. MeMUNC,
as we are affectionately known, rose from humble beginnings, but has grown
exponentially over the past five years.
Begun in 1999, when roughly 25 students attended the one-day conference
in Augusta, we have evolved into a 300-student, three-day conference spanning a
wide range of international topics. We have truly risen above everyone’s
expectations, but...
JUST WAIT UNTIL THE MAY 2004 MeMUNC,
when we will again raise the bar! As
this year’s esteemed delegates, you will have the responsibility of maintaining
the integrity previous delegates have established for MeMUNC,
but you will also be charged with the added responsibility of undertaking new
challenges offered to you this year by the MeMUNC
staff. We have new committees with new topics, new procedures, and new faces
for you to get to know, but MeMUNC 2004 has the same
spirit and energy that you have come to love! While you are participating in
the Press Corps, General Assembly SPECPOL, Special Session on Food, UN
Commission on Human Rights, International Court of Justice, African Union, and
the ever-popular Security Council, I hope that you will learn the functions and
responsibilities of the United Nations, but also that you will learn about and
challenge yourselves.
So, delegates, I wish you well in your preparations
for the conference, and I encourage you to contact your chairs or other MeMUNC staff with any concerns, comments, or
questions. We are here to make your experience
the best that it can be! Good luck
esteemed delegates, and I look forward to meeting you in May!
Sincerely,
Emily M. Ainsworth
Secretary General, 2004 MeMUNC
