All-Day Workshop with Annie Finch:

"Rhythms of Poetry"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rhythmic language is an ancient poetic path for uniting body and spirit, idea and intuition, humanity and nature. This workshop will teach poets to channel the power of poetic rhythm into your own poems, drawing on poets from Sappho to Thomas Hardy to Gwendolyn Brooks, but mostly on our own inner ears. Through games, improvisation, and simply listening inward, we will build a repertoire of patterns and learn to track our most fertile personal rhythms.

For the morning session, please bring at least one poem, song, or other rhythmic text whose rhythm has “stuck with you”—that you find impossible to forget (24 copies). For the afternoon session, bring one of your own poems in free verse(16 copies), and plenty of blank paper.
